it's just that the europeans living or owning property in the new world cranked it up to the millions.

To be fair and recognizing history, there weren't always millions of slaves to be had until the 17th century. When Ramses II defeated the third wave of Sea Peoples and took them as slaves, they only numbered in the 10s of thousands.

Slavery until the 18th century was the norm. So, if a former slave saved up their money, why would they not buy a slave or two to make life easier? That is what was done. One of the.largest slave holders in Louisiana was a former slave HERSELF.

The difference between American slavery (instituted by the english) and old world slavery was in North America your children were slaves after you and their children as well. Slaves were not taken by combat or by treaty. Slaves were a commodity to be bought, sold, and treated as an asset.
