Sorry this is a long post but I hope you find it useful.
Well for starters, both game line ups are shit. Historically all launch titles have weak. As with every system launch theres a couple sports games, a fighting game, a shooter, a race car game, and a couple uninteresting indie games.
First the games. On the PS4 the only exclusive title is Killzone. It looks great, but the story line is weak. It does have good pacing which is a step up from previous Killzone titles. Ive had it for 2 days and Im more than halfway through the single player campaign. Its an ok game.
Then theres Call of Duty and Battlefield. I only picked these up because I wanted something to play. I normally hate these games mostly due to Im just burned out on them. Call of Duty Ghosts to me i like playing any other the the previous 10 COD's. I used to play multiplayer years ago but, I just got tired of it. Its small maps and just repetitive. I need story and substance. Sorry Ill get off my soapbox on COD. The story is completely over the top and by the 2nd mission I don't even know what the plot is and just skip the cutscenes. Just start the mission, and shoot the guys shooting at you. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Theres a couple other titles, Madden, Fifa, race game. Not my cup of tea but if you're a casual gamer plenty of entertainment. Oh and Lego super heroes. I mean hey who doesn't like Legos right.
Complaints I see going forward. HDD. Both systems have 500g hdd. I originally thought finally enough space for my games. Wrong! guess again. For the next gen consoles going forward you will be required to download your games. Give you an example. Killzone 46g, COD 49g. Keep in mind your "500g" hdd still needs space for operating system and what not. Bottom line total space on HDD 324g. For a casual gamer who only has a handful of titles this is ok. Im a hardcore gamer though. I have over 60 games in my current gen so Im guessing you just have to delete games as you play them to keep space available. Not all games are that big though, Lego for ex is only 7g. So we'll see. Solution for this get a new HDD. PS4 you can upgrade the HDD. I recommend a Solid State HDD. Its easy to swap and tests show the PS4 actually runs faster. Downside, a 1TB SSHDD runs about $380. Im sure cost will come down in the future. Xbox1 you can't upgrade the HDD but, you will be able to connect an external drive.
Controls. So far the controller on the PS4 is pretty cool. I really like the touchpad. I didn't think it was possible to add another button on a game controller but it work nicely. On Killzone you use it to control your drone and just swipe different directions to utilize the various modes. It has a headphone jack that you can use any headset with. In your settings menu you can specify all audio or just chat. It has speakers! I was playing along and I pick up an audio log. As soon as I picked it up I hear dialogue coming from my controller. Pretty cool. Share button. Sony made it real easy to share game content now. You use Twitch or Ustream. The PS4 constantly is recording the previous 15 min of your activity. So say you do a run of like 20 kills in a row or something. You're like man no ones gonna believe me. Hit the button and your given 3 options, upload video clip, upload screenshot, or broadcast live. You hit upload video. You're given a long video clip. You tell it where to start and where to stop. One button editing. Hit share. It uploads to your Facebook. When your done it takes you right back into your game right where you left off. Seamless. Broadcasting is cool too. If you're familiar with Twitch.tv it basically is just live feed of gameplay. You broadcast, you have the option of having your mic and camera on, and you see a side bar on your screen. It will post the link on FB or friends can go onto Twitch and look up your page and see your feed. People can make comments on your game play and it tells you how many people are watching you etc.
Future games: I bought both systems because well.. Im a douche bag yuppie. No, lol. Im an early adopter. Im just a hardcore gamer and have to have the latest tech out there. Theres a long wait till the games I enjoy or rather am looking forward to come out. I got both systems for the exclusive titles. For Sony thats the Uncharted series, The Last of Us (btw which was game of the year for 2013, I highly recommend). Both have a very engaging storyline and incredible voice acting and mocap video. After a couple disappointing titles
Final Fantasy 15 looks promising. On Xbox1,
Halo of course… and
Titanfall
Then theres cross platform games. I haven't decided if Im going to lean towards Sony or Xbox this next generation of consoles. Big titles to keep an eye out for
The division, Its in the Tom Clancy series and those have always been good. Its part MMO, RPG, Shooter,
Destiny which is created by Bungie the original creators of Halo series and Activision (COD series),
The Evil Within which is rested byShinji Mikami who created the first Resident Evil,
Metal Gear 5,
The actual trailer spot for this is short but, it will be awesome
SWBF, If you like the Dead Island games this is their follow up for next gen
Dying Light. Last theres
Watch Dogs
I can't tell you about the Xbox1 as I don't get it till this Friday but if anyone wants Ill post what I think about it. I think I covered all the new ones coming out. If anyone wants any game recommendations for current gen, feel free to ask. I have a couple favorites.
