Newbie question: Do cops really bust you?

I am so paranoid about the illegality of the hobby in the USA, that I went to Toronto for my first experience. It was very good and I am excited to go back there again. My newbie impression is that escorts reveal a lot more information on their websites and also seem much less uptight on screening. Is this true?

Should I give this a try in the USA? What if the escort I see eventually gets busted down the road. Do the cops comb her email to then bust all the johns? And if so , what exactly happens to you, fine, slap on wrist, jailtime ?

I am sure these q's must seem really dumb, but I assure you they are my genuine concerns.

Should I give this a try in the USA? It depends on you, and how much you care to risk. The intensity of LE activity depends largely on geography. For instance, LE in Little Rock is known to focus on the hobby. But while Dallas is pretty loose, LE still does occur. I suspect Indiana would be more like Little Rock. It's an easy bust, with little threat of violence, and it makes good PR headlines. Really no downside for the cops. What if the escort I see eventually gets busted down the road. Do the cops comb her email to then bust all the johns? Yes, the cops do their research, and get your name and whatever else you have provided. Most ladies will say they don't keep that stuff. Don't believe it. It's part of the screening process. Go to p411. In order to bust you the data won't prove the crime. Testimony of the lady will (he paid me $ for sex). So, you kinda have to trust the one you're with... And if so , what exactly happens to you, fine, slap on wrist, jailtime ? Depends entirely on local laws and the judge imposing the sentence. But you do get a record for all to see, especially future employers.

I am sure these q's must seem really dumb there is no such thing as a dumb question, except one that isn't asked, but I assure you they are my genuine concerns.

Quick take on your question -- It is, of course, illegal in these parts, but don't let your paranoia get the best of you.

There are (as Charles mentions) local variations in departmental policy on vice enforcement. For instance, Arlington is in the midst of a long term effort to rid their entertainment district of visible prostitution...don't go street trolling there.

But the main thing I'd suggest you remember is that PD's have limited budgets and tend to "scratch where it itches" and where they can show the best results for time and dollars spent. So just don't make it easy for them.

1. Stay off the streets! If you can look out your car window and see her, so can the cops. And so can the "neighbors" and when someone files a complaint it goes on some sergeant's list of things to do and the likelihood of someone getting busted goes way up. (I know this is "THE game" for some guys, but to do it long-term is hazardous and you probably aren't as street smart as the guys who practice it successfully.)

2. Don't be poor and black or brown! Okay, that's kind of a joke, but go look at any "Wall of Shame" that various PD's post showing photos of prostitution busts.

3. Mostly, don't be stupid. Screen your ladies as well (or better) than they screen you. It's a mantra around these parts -- Stick with reliable, well-reviewed ladies who give you a reason to believe they have their heads on straight. You'll miss some hot "flavor of the month" gals, but your blood pressure won't be nearly as high. Avoid hookers who you sense might be into drugs, and thus move from the sights of vice to into narcotics, as well.

Know the law. And better than Charles up there does (and I'm not saying he's stupid.) You may get on some PD reference list if a provider's phone or computer gets impounded, but that's the worst. Testimony from the phone's owner that you were a customer won't land you in jail...it just takes more evidence than that and LE isn't going to be interested enough in the work required, and uncertain jury results, to risk the time and resources to pursue you (unless you're a high-profile figure who was elected on a Family Values platform, in which case you're SOL and deserve to be).

In the rare event that you walk into some sort of police action, be sure you've given a little thought to "why you're there" and, again, know the law -- there are smart and stupid ways to behave when questioned. There's a Forum on this site that deals with legal issues. Read in it and if you're question isn't already answered post it for feedback. There are lawyers who respond and some of them know what they're talking about.

Unless you walk into a police sting, there is probably less than 1% chance of being arrested based on the provider's records. That alone is not enough information to get a conviction for a low-level misdemeanor. The cops aren't going to spend the resources to follow around all the people on a list. No D.A. in his right mind would ever try to use the testimony of a less than credible prostitute to gain a conviction on once again low level misdemeanor. Any decent defense attorney would rip the prostitute apart on cross examination. Finally, did Eliot Spitzer ever get arrested for his fling with a prostitute-- no. The risk of getting busted are very low if you play the game smartly. The real consequences of getting caught are probably more likely to be divorce or embarrassment. Again see Eliot Spitzer. In his case, the rendezvous were probably more costly in non legal terms than any arrest/conviction.

I'm single so I don't worry about a significant other. This is somethings I do even if I'm not seeing a well reviewed lady.

I look to see if she is a regular advertiser on whatever venue she is advertising on. I figure a sting operation can't go on very long with the same number before the word would get out and it won't work for LE anymore.

When I call her up I never mention sex or sexual activities. I say I'm and my first name. I saw your ad on the internet (or name of paper or type of place I got her information) and I'd like to make an appointment to see you. How much will this be if they haven't posted a rate.
Notice I never say appointment for what. It could be for a stereo for sale, to get her to model, to make a date or anything. Also if there is something wrong with the number or my dialing I don't accidentally get ahold of the local moral majority member.

If it is incall she'll either give you a street she is on if she is working out of her home or the hotel she is in. You'll have to call her again when you get there to find out where she exactly is. I kind of look the area over for anything that just doesn't seem right. Mostly I don't want to get in the middle of something accidentally that would cause the police to talk to me like a car accident.

When I get inside, if I have to talk about money I never discuss for what. When she says to get comfortable she means get undressed. Your chances or running into LE is very limited. I'm near a medium sized city and they bust maybe two women every 2 years or so for prostitution. The last two I read in the paper about being arrested showed up on the radar for other reasons that we don't talk about here.

Looking at this site http://www.chicagopolice.org/ps/ it lists 39 people with arrests involving prostitution. From the number of cars impounded, it looks like it was mostly, if not all, for street prostitution. To put this in perspective. there have been 32 murders in Chicago so far this month. I think you chance of getting arrested is just about nil if you use any common sense at all.
