I'm a big fat flake!!!
So, there's this provider here on eccie that I've been wanting to see for a while. this week looked like I was going to get my chance, yay!!! I started texting her Tuesday in hopes that I would be able to see her on the 4th. She wasn't available then so we set up something for today after I was to get off work. Well, this morning my SO complained of a sore throat. I took a look and she definitely had the tell tail signs of strep including swollen lymph nodes, white puss pockets, and a fever. I didn't think it would be a good idea to expose the provider to such an infection and since it was early in the morning I thought a pm would be the best way to let her know what's up and to see if we could reschedule. A few hours later I get a reply saying t.hat I flaked and that she doesn't reschedule with first timers who cancel. I respect her prerogative to not reschedule and I'm okay with it (even though I really wanted to see her.) What I don't understand is why she says I'm a flake. Life happens, its not my fault my SO got sick. Should I have kept the appointment and risk exposing this provider with strep throat? What would you gents have done? What do you ladies think I should have done?

Like you said, life happens! If your SO was sick, it was the responsible thing to do not to see the provider since you could have spread the infection. Unfortunately, the provider was probably counting on you keeping your appointment, which cost her money when you didn't show up. I think it was a lose/lose situation for the both of you.
As for her not seeing you from now on, just move along to the next lady, and don't look back. If she chooses not to see you, regardless of whether your excuse is valid or not, there's not much you can do. I wonder if the unnamed lady in question will be chiming in to give her side of the story...?

She should have THANKED YOU for your consideration in NOT exposing her to a very contagious illness. If you notified her this morning that you have to reschedule this evenings session, I would consider that timely.
I'll second what Marcus78 said, move on to the next one.

You just got to be categorized with what are probably a lot of flakes because you are one of the few that was responsible. The reality is that probably 9 out of 10 people that cancel on her like that are flakes. Apparently she has plenty of business and does not need to worry about seeing the exceptions like you. Best option is move on.

No doubt if you had gone through with the appoinment, and she became infected, she would be on here bashing you for being so irresponsible. Move on, if her main priority is the $$ and not her health,I would say she's not worth either your time or money, not ALL money is good money.

As a provider i would have said thank you for not bringing the germs to me lol, it happens, as long as you gave notice i dont see why should be an issue but every provider has their own way of handling things. I have had guys cancle for alot less, my favorite was one who cancelled last min saying he checked his account and dont have enough to see me, really should have checked that before you called lol, anyway i agree move on there are lots of us you can chose from. Have fun and be safe!!!!

Nice to know that naivety is not excluded from the hobby ("and I can't keep our appt. because in real life I'm Jack Bauer and I just discovered a terrorist plot, Yes, in San Antonio, but I'll have it wrapped up soon enough and should be good to go tomorrow ...")
And maybe the dog did eat his homework and life is just being unfair and delivering a detour from his well-made plans - but the provider certainly shouldn't feel compelled to ride along.
(Have you ever noticed how some people have more "stuff" going on in their life than others? Sometimes is better to just move on.)

It appears that so far the general consensus is that I should just move on and that I did the right thing. Thank you all for validating me.
I'm sure the provider has a valid reason for not wanting to see me. All I can do is speculate as to why and wish her the best.

Johnny,
You're absolutely right. Who the eff am I to her? Just some faceless dude with a boner. That's why I don't hold anything against her for her decision. I just want to know if its fair to call this a flake and did I make the right decision. Thank you for your input, it helped.

Dude you most certainly did the right thing. Things do come up and I would rather have a provider mad at me and maybe not even see me again that to spread any germs or get her sick.

You did the right thing. Don't sweat it.
I stopped scheduling appointments in advance. My job is so unpredictable that I have to travel at the drop of a hat. Now I only contact people when I'm ready to meet. Even that gets screwed up sometimes.
