Why the Lefties on Here Are the Way they Are
The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.- Morpheus, The Matrix

My favorite recent liberal clarion call is "we've got to GROW our way out of this recession. Don't try austerity." Look, in the last 15 years we've had some of the biggest telcom advances and other technological growth and we still have HUGE deficits.
Before "someone" says "but but THE WARS." Europe for the most part, didn't spend much on the wars and they are in worse shape than us. Its all about the govt spending and accumulating more in public liability and general "feeding from the taxpayers trough" than we can efficiently produce in tax revenue.
Sure we need to grow, but its more important to get a handle on govt spending because we are in this recession even after a huge growth period.

Isn't it amazing how the growth for the wealthy started about the same time that the law passed that all extra Social Security collected had to be loaned out by the gov.
Lets take a count of how many years conservatives have been in office since 1982 compared to how many liberals have been in office since 1982 shall we?
Conservatives - 19 years
Liberals - 11 years
And now we have roughly $3 trillion in LOANED OUT SOCIAL SECURITY COLLECTIONS THAT I AND MY YOUNG NIECES AND NEPHEWS WILL HAVE TO PAY BACK BECAUSE CUTEOLDGUY DID NOTHING TO STOP THIS FUCKING SHIT TWO DECADES AGO.

Not to be rude but you do understand that Europe went from competing currencies to a central bank fiat currency. It only took about a little over a decade for the first depression to happen. Now where did that happen in the past? Hint it was somewhere around after the first world war into the last of the 1920s.

Growth has to happen with a fiat currency or we get the "dreaded deflation" that no rich person wants to happen. In a fiat currency DEBT=MONEY so a rich person really has a lot of debt, not directly but the wealth if not in real assets is represented by debt somewhere in the monetary system.

Why did someone mention a depression? This is a recession...so far and Europe had a severe recession in the 70s. They missed out in the 40s and 50s as almost every brick put on top of another was progress in Germany. Recessions are cyclical, the severity depends on the reaction. Take Sweden in the 1920s. Their recession lasted about six months as the king forced everyone to turn in their currency and issued new currency with half the face value. Suddenly Sweden had some of the strongest currency in the world and they cancelled inflation. Another little thing, Europe never called their downturn the Great Depression. The United States under FDR bobbled the ball and extended the depression for an extra decade. Germany rebuilt their economy with work and not handouts. The misery was shorter lived in Europe than in our own country thanks to progressive policies.

Reagean lowered progressive taxes and made up the difference with regressive taxes. A transfer of wealth from the middle class to the wealthy.
The huge SS surplus paid for all his military spending. That used to be paid for by the rich. Our Tea Nuts do not have a clue.
COG is now getting his economic thoughts from the Matrix!

After the stock market crash in 1929. The federal government made just about every mistake possible in handling the economy, and as you said, prolonged the depression. The fact that FDR is still treated with such reverence by the left is amazing.
FDR is the father of the social welfare state that is currently bankrupting us. The truth is, that FDR used the depression as an excuse to implement New Deal programs which were clearly unconstitutional. FDR had no incentive to stimulate the weak economy since it allowed him to accomplish, what was in his mind, the more important task of advancing socialism. Obama is using the current economic downturn to advance socialism in much the same way as FDR.

The think the whole Matrix concept is really a variation on Plato's Allegory of the Cave, and for that matter, so was "The Truman Show".

How many right wing loons would cut defense spending drastically? Curtail or eliminate foreign aid? Promote ending the stupid drug war? Change the focus of defense to actual defense, not policing the world? Promote legalizing the "hobby"?
You are simply an incoherent idiot. Marsha was right when he nicknamed you WDF.

None, come on over and join up RP'ers and quit starting threads you haven't even read. I can't have that kind of ignorance around me. I have a reputation to uphold!
