Default How have you deal with sleepless nights?

So as I am having a sleepless night it made me wonder how other people deal with them. Like tonight I have been trying to sleep for about four hours and just can't become sleepy no matter what I have tried.

I go through periods of not being able to fall asleep 2-3 times a year, it'll last a month or so.

I have a "sleepy" playlist on my Ipod, all soothing music that relaxes. I also drink chamomile tea about an hour before I hop into bed.

Watch what you eat or drink before you go to bed too. That could be a factor.

1- Don't drink anything with caffeine (some sodas, coffee, tea, etc.) Make sure that EVERYTHING you drink for the 5-6 hrs before you go to bed is either caffeine-free or decaffeinated.

2- About 1 hr before you go to bed take a couple of Benadryl (over the counter antihistamine).

3- 1/2 - 1 hour before you go to bed read something light (i.e. NOT work related) or listen to some mellow music.

Good luck.

Don't hang out in bed unless you are going to sleep (or fuck). Don't read in bed. Don't watch TV or listen to music unless it is to put you to sleep. You want to train yourself that bed is for sleeping.

I agree with not doing anything in bed besides sleeping/sex. That one really helped me. I've been struggling with a sleeping disorder since I was a child, and reading in bed made it so much worse.

Take a benadryl and some melatonin, drink some caffeine free tea, and count sheep

Regular physical exercise. I've been lazy for the last couple of weeks so now I can't get to sleep or stay asleep. I've been up since 530 for no reason. Beautiful weather, take walks!

Something odd that always works for me is I will sleep in a different spot then in my bed for a few days. Either on my couch (with the tv off), my spare bed, every once in a while I will sleep on the floor if my back gets restless.

I tend not to get as deep of sleep when I do it, but it helps me get back to a normal sleep schedule.

Going/went thru the same phase....but recently started doing intense cardio exercise (jump rope) for 20-30 mts before going bed, now I'm able to sleep pretty good.
