BBW? Voluptuous?
I was just wondering what is the difference between the two?? I was having a conversation and the topic came up at work-the ladies said I was irrelevant in the convo because I do not possess that body type, so it left me curious-what are the differences?

my personal difference would be that the "volumtous" one might not be laden with
a cottage cheese butt and legs. a little mis spelling there...maybe "voluptuous"??

I think the two are interchangeable. Depending on the context of the conversation you were having, I don't think the use of either term would be contentious with respects to how you were using them once you clarified they were interchangeable. IMHO.

This definition may seem on the surface to be simplistic but to a plus size woman this isn't always necessarily so. The term bbw is very vague. The complexity of replying back a definition to this question is difficult because like beauty, it is the eye of the beholder. If several people were to see what a person actually looks like you might get several different replies if she is a bbw or not a bbw. There is no true barometer regarding where the scale of being a bbw begins. Is a bbw, a size 14 or above?

Volumtuous may not be taken kindly. It may be implied that someone has a lot of volume.
Voluptuous on the other hand, may be open to interpretation.
Voluptuous - (of a woman's body) having a large bosom and pleasing curves.
A Big Beautiful Woman (BBW), may also be open to interpretation.
The term is a subjective, visually-determined concept that does not have an explicit lower or upper weight limitation, and may denote women who may be considered barely overweight to those who are morbidly obese.
In my opinion, a voluptuous woman has an hour-shape figure (large breasts, ample hips and a waist smaller than her hips).
Then again, as I said, it is open to interpretation. Everyone has their own opinion. What is yours Karla?

The apparent difference between the two is that, as Wikipedia indicates, the term "BBW", as commonly used or misused (another matter of opinion!), spans a wider spectrum, from slightly overweight to morbidly obese.
I am of the same opinion as JJ, that a voluptuous woman has an hourglass-shaped figure -- large breasts, ample hips, waist smaller than hips -- to me, still visually pleasing, and so I will use this term (and not BBW) in a review to describe such a figure.

Dunno about those pics, I always thought that the term voluptuous was best defined also by the term "Rubenesque" : of, relating to, or suggestive of the painter Rubens or his works; especially : plump or rounded usually in a pleasing or attractive way <a Rubenesque figure> From M-W.com. I've always seen those older paintings in his style as a voluptuous woman. Most of the Thick thru chubby categories fit in my mind as voluptuous. The only BBW was the last one. BUT to be a BBW also involves a state of mind. where she will also see herself as beautiful, sexy, fun and confidant in her own skin. That makes a woman beautiful no matter her size.
On another note, the "average" pic is NOT actually from what I've seen in my travels throughout the US the one termed pudgy is more of the average and is not IMHO pudgy, just soft and cuddly :-)

Picture the difference when she is on top of you doing cowgirl ______let's say
Anna Nicole Smith voluptuous
versus
Rosie O'Donnell BBW
