Default if someone can't click on a Men's Lounge hyperlink to view it, why is it a violation to post the link?

if i post a link to a thread in the Men's Lounge, people who click on it can't view it if they don't have ROS access.

SO WHY AM I GETTING POINTS FOR POSTING A LINK THAT PEOPLE WITH ROS ACCESS CANNOT READ, ALLEGING THAT I DIVULGED ROS (PRIVATE) INFO IN A PUBLIC AREA?

i suggest you mods explain this one.....i am getting sick of getting points for things that aren't against the rules. do i have to search the board in other cities to show that many members post links to ROS access areas, and routinely divulge minor private info, in public areas and that it is not a violation of board rules?

you Austin mods need to view the rules before you go assigning points.

was a repeat but without the French kiss.
that CLEARLY violates ROS, he divulged in the review he linked above (#30048) that there was french kissing involved. but no correction made and thus no points assigned.

I am putting some new face pics in the Locker Room.
so he "technically" divulges what he himself is going to post in the Private (Men's Lounge) area, which by SpaceMtn's words a violation of policy, regardless of whether or not the actual information/thread is readable. simply divulging what can be found in there is a violation?

i can keep going if you want.

Since it has been suggested that the Mods learn the rules, I thought I would post the relevant guidelines for all to observe:

#20 - The men and women of our board each have their respective private areas in which secure content is posted and a greater freedom of expression allowed. Each member is responsible for keeping the information in any of the private secure areas (Men's Lounge, Provider Powder Room, The Rest of the Story, posts which have been tagged as private) 100% restricted to the members who are intended to have access to that material. Revealing ANY content which was posted in one of the men's or women's private sections of the board will result in penalty, up to and including loss of your access to these areas. Full cooperation may result in a less severe penalty, and each violation will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Repeated infractions will impact the severity of punishment.

First the Mods are human and volunteers. We try to uniformily make sure that our members adhere to the guidelines set forth by the owners. This particular post was reported to me by another member. Since Men's Lounge informatin was referenced and a praticular member was mentioned in reference to the thread in the Men's Lounge, this constituted revealation of ANY content. Can the Mods miss some of these breaches, of course. That is why we ask for the members to help us by using the RTM button.

The next guideline that might be appropriate here is this one:
#3 - Disrespect to others, IN GENERAL, will be considered an item of low tolerance, especially when posting in our coed forums. Follow the Golden Rule and treat others as you wish to be treated yourself. This applies to fellow members as well as staff. We do not require that you have respect for us, but we do require that you treat us respectfully in the public forums. If you feel the need to vent, gripe, or blow off some steam regarding a staff member's action or decision, we ask that you keep it private. Email, RTM, or the PM system would be the appropriate avenue to take in such cases. In cases where you would like to request additional clarity about a staff decision, you are free to pursue an answer in either a public forum or private means of communication. If handled publicly, post your inquiry in a respectful manner.

I would think that any further discussion of this matter would best be handled through the channels suggested above.

fine i will send you PM's. i really believe in the case of mine you really made an error and need to own up to it. moderator's aren't always right simply because of their title.

if you are going to accuse me of wrongdoing my advice is to have your ducks in a row.....

TX.. I doubt seriously that SM's credibility won't be affected at all. that's just a bad call on your part.

actually from what i can see, based upon his actions, and because he refuses to reply and tell me why he did what he did, i can only assume that he did what he did was not based upon the rules of this board, but for other reasons that lead the observer to think things that may not be the intent of the moderator who took the action of deleting the link(s). see below for an explanation.

i posted two links, one was to a private men's lounge thread that you cannot see even if you click on it if you don't have ROS access (the bone of contention).

the other link was to a public link that anyone could read.

both links led to comments left from other ECCIE members about a particular provider that did not have good feedback. since i had never seen her i couldn't comment on either.

ECCIE rules do NOT state (if you look above) that simply referencing a link to a private area that you cannot read without having ROS access is tantamount to divulging the information inside that discussion thread. it was interpreted by him that this is the same. i argue that simply posting a link that does not work (if you dont have ROS access) is not the same as divuluging the information within the thread. that makes logical sense. posting a link that one cannot click on to view the information inside is simply not the same as posting the information therein.

it's like saying i know what's written in the pages of the book when i've only seen a blank cover, without the book's title or author. how could i look at a blank book cover and tell you with any certainty that i know what is written inside? it's not possible.

the issue i am referring to is if the first link (private) was the one that may or may not have violated board rules (and i was quick to provide four links where other members had done the same or worse (they posted the link AND commented about what it contained in a public area)) and no punishment or editing was done. if the first link was the one the mods were concerned about, then why was the 2nd (public) link removed as well?

that is a legitimate question. to refuse to answer it, and to refuse to restore the link that i had left, and no apology even, infers just one thing. and im sure you can figure out what that inference is. had he simply afforded a reason for his actions, or an simple "oops i made a mistake i erased both, oh well," that would suffice. but to not even do that....well.....you be the judge.

John_TX,
This was answered in a PM to you and as you know it was already reviewed by Admin.

First, We never erase anything. There is a pre-edit copy of any post or thread that Moderators change stored in a staff area.

Second, I am not a programmer and I can't say that I really know what will and will not work with this software. I do know that when I logged out and checked the link(s) they were active. Many times I have read about bugs and patches that have to be fixed with the software, but admittedly this is not my area of expertise.

Third, The rule states "revealing ANY content which was posted in one of the men's or women's private sections of the board will result in penalty". By referring to a thread regarding a specific member that exists in the Men's Lounge constitutes a breach of the private area.

Fourth, You have intimated that this was done not because a rule was broken, but for other reasons. I do not know you, or the other person referenced in the exchange. What other reason could I have for the actions taken? I have absolutely zero to gain from any of these actions.

This is not a popularity contest or a democracy. Polling the board for support will not change the guidelines posted by the owners, particularily after the Admin assigned to this area has reviewed the situation. I have no desire to argue with you or any other member here. I am just trying to follow the guidelines given to me when the Owners asked me to volunteer to be a Moderator. I am not perfect and like everyone here I make mistakes, but I don't believe I did this time. I am sorry that you disagree. This is my final statement regarding this issue.

At the top of the page is a tab entitled "Forum Guidelines". These are the rules that we expect our members to abide by as set forth by the owners of the site.

Whenever in the judgement of a Mod or Admin, a member has broken or violated a rule or guideline, the Mod or Admin may either "warn" the member through a formal process that is tied to the post or thread that the violation occurred in , or if it is flagrant, or the member has been warned before, or is just a constant pain in the ass, the Mod or Admin can issue "points". These are like demerits and different offenses carry differing point values and differing time values for the "points" to stay on a members profile. If a member accumulates enough points, they can be given a vacation (also known as being banned) for a period of time so that they may consider modifying their behavior. For some offenses, the ban or vacation is permanent.

Simply put, points are the Mods and Admins way of keeping score on our naughty members!!!

Click on "User CP." They'll be listed there as "infractions" if you have any.
