Default hobby phone

My old hobby phone is a flip phone that doesn't allow texting in any quick manner but I really like the no contract, phone minutes feature.

What is a good hobby phone that has no contract but isn't a flip phone? Can it be gotten at Walmart?

Thanks!

I still like to keep mine separate. Cricket wireless has no contract plans.

CC - Tracfone seems to have very limited texting. Is that your experience?

I use verizon $35 a month unlimited texts and calls. Not easiest for texts but cheap.

+1 for this method. Use a txting app on your smartphone. Free unlimited txts. Voice calls are only 10 cents/min.

Android and iPhone both have burner number apps for calls and texts. You can password protect them so only you can read and send from the app.
If you another carrier (especially Virgin Mobile), use a different address when registering your phone and phone number. They will send out monthly advertisements and renewal notices even if you request them not to.
