Default CA minimum wage $ 20

The new law to require a $ 20 payment to fast food workers sounds like it is creating
havoc among the restaurants and restaurant owners.

Thousands of layoffs, dozens of closures. At least from the headlines, it is a disaster.

Fast food is about to be anything but fast there. And who the hell wants to pay probably $16 for a damn Whopper meal? When I lived in LA years ago, I paid around 6 bucks for one and I thought that was even too much for that unhealthy garbage.

That law only hurts unskilled CA workers much more than it helps them IMO. I don't even believe in minimum wage. I'm with the late and to me, brilliant Milton Friedman on that. Let the market decide the worth of employee labor.

Pure capitalism has never existed in the USA. However, even with FDR's "NEW DEAL" the USA is far from socialism. The highest paid 3 million people have more wealth than the entire middle class combined. That comes from the lead economist at Fox, not Neal Caputo the other guy with the glasses and grey hair.

Feudalism does not exist anymore. The USA probably has the largest middle class of any industrialized country. When 3 million people out of 300 million people have more wealth than the other 200 million people combined, you don't have socialism. Far from it.

Why would you even suggest that? Is someone sharing their BMW730I with you?

It is in the proper forum, Salty. Who do you think made $20 the minimum wage in CA? Hint: CA politicians

I actually do believe in a minimum wage. PPL who employ others below a standard of living will get sub-standard employees. Typically students or uneducated, or un-skilled labor. It's the same reason we don't condone sub market labor rates in 3rd world countries. That said- fast food isn't anybody's friend in general. It's more expensive than a menu ordered item, and while it may be convenient, it's proven to be a huge problem for the obesity epidemic in the country;

Perhaps that food dynamic has come to an end?

Eating healthy or healthier doesn't mean it's necessarily going to always cost more. It just takes more time generally. I've eaten at Applebee's 2 for $25 for less than it cost for two fast food meals at any of the chain fast food restaurants.

Maybe it's the wake up call America needs to be able to sit down and enjoy a meal with their family members instead of just shoving garbage down their respective gob holes. While I'm sorry to see someone have to close a store due to money- perhaps the dynamic is one that they took advantage of for FAR too long anyway.

Should a young parent who is supporting a family- have to work 50 plus hours and still not afford to pay rent or buy groceries? COLA for Seniors is a thing, - why not for minimum wages?

Just another perspective.

(Plenty of non-chain restaurants doing ok, and still making a living.)

... Oh! ... Yes, of course, mate... DEMOCRAT politicians.
Glad we got that point cleared up.

Do you have any evidence or only claims? In Denmark they get 35 bucks an hour and the price of a big Mac has went up $.62.

Making a living? Please. Basic fair compensation package should be part of any employment. No matter who buy or what you do. If you cannot do business and make a profit without exploding labor, you deserve to be bankrupt and not in business.

Are you insinuating that Applebee’s is healthy? Jesus take the wheel and I’m a deist

The only Socialism in the United States is for the corporate donor class. Every taxpayer in America is liable for $8000 per year to corporations and $37 to our fellows. I don’t think you are qualified to participate in this discussion.

I suppose that would work if you actually had a free market. There is no such thing. There definitely should be a minimum wage. There should be far better and more thoughtful labor laws as well as antitrust legislation.

You’re correct except for the middle class comment. There is no middle class left it’s working class and conspicuously wealthy

A Google search is easy to see that there are indeed some healthy choices at Applebee's. There are also some unhealthy ones ...but I think generally it's a better option than Jack in the Box or Whataburger.

Plus the money I save on the entree goes towards a few beers or dollar drinks specials.

Jesus can order from wherever he wants.
