Sexual Intelligence - What sexual repression actually looks like
http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/...actually-looks
..."There are large groups of people who claim certain negative attitudes about sexuality, yet do those very same things. Porn. Prostitutes. Premarital sex. Same-gender stuff. Affairs. Adult masturbation. Wild fantasies"...
..."According to credit card receipts from a national provider of adult entertainment, eight of the top ten pornography-consuming states went Republican in the 2008 election. And the trend goes beyond voting. For example, states where a majority of residents agreed with the statement "I have old-fashioned values about family and marriage" bought more subscriptions per thousand people than states where a majority disagreed. The same difference emerged for the statement "AIDS might be God's punishment for immoral sexual behavior."
--------
Will we ever come out of our puritanical ways with regard to sex in the US?

people are hypocrites ;-). reminds me of feminists screwing their way up the career ladder. Its what you want to be portrayed about yourself on the outside that counts. For some at least.

Funny, I read this blog to mean that conservative people tend to turn to pornography for a sexual release rather than cheating on their spouses with an escort or civilian.......seems conservative to me, but some conservatives think it is better to hire an escort than use porn or a civilian.....either way, marital stability is maintained......conservative, very conservative.....

yes the costs of a marriage and lies, right?
Plus if you "need" and use something you probably should not "vote" against it and give "it" the proper respect it deserves?

Truth can be painful and destructive....would you choose truth instead?.....what someone doesn't know won't hurt them......many people get hurt when a marriage breaks up......call it hypocrisy if you like, but I don't think anyone can stand up to your standard of hypocrisy......

what is my standard of hypocrisy? yes you are right many people get hurt by the truth, so do get secret lovers of married men.
and also a truth is treating people you need for maintaining your marriage as second class citizens and spit on them while looking down on them. I agree with you - the truth can be painful. That is why i charge for being a secret or a psychotherapist.
And i disagree what someone does not know wiôn`t hurt them, you don`t know what, Subconsciousness has ways of work. Sometimes you "know" even if you don`t. Plus, people who support a certain belief should stick to it. Pornography has nothing to do with marriage.
You can have both and not break up a marriage.

I agree with nina. There are a LOT of times when what someone doesn't know ends up hurting them; I've found that many people who subscribe to that way of thinking do so as an excuse as to why they're doing something they think is wrong.
Before anyone jumps on me, I am not accusing Marshall or anyone else of doing it, and am saying I've done it myself.
Also agree that pornography and marriage CAN peacefully co-exist.

a lie is quite manipulative. it denies people the right to make informed decisions. I do entertain married gentlemen AND get paid for because i see that as a service to a marriage or a psychotherapy session, which also demands payment, and i made the mistake to even date one privately, which is why i know exactly what i am talking about.
so i agree with the notion that to hire escorts is better than to date someone behind someones back. But that does not mean that you have to pretend you don`t like porns and vote conservative, right?

Red States = More porn watching. No sh*t, Sherlock. A bunch of miniature, repressed televangelists in waiting. Looks like they've at least got a grip on something even if it's a bit slippery. If everyone else can't do it, then it'll be OK for them to sneak a peek because the culture police are reliable and righteous and it probably won't hurt them to do so. Indulgence in just another fantasy world, like the one where they dream everyone else will be just like them.
So, it's "conservative" to grip it and rip it, eh? Hmmmm, I remember a little ditty saying that thinking about it is the same as doing it. Lusting in your heart anyone? Bueller, Bueller, Buedller, uh, Carter..... Nah, thoughts never lead to actions or have consequences.
Hypocrites? Hell yeah. But, I'd also say that they're looking for someone to "save" them from themselves. Even better, they want the government, of all entities (that's too rich to say the least), to do it for them.
John Boner, Glenn Beck, et al, crying and carrying on just like Jimmy Swaggert. Pitiful.

You paint with a pretty broad brush there. If all conservatives are "repressed televangelists" and "hypocrites" does that make all liberals homosexuals and tax cheats?
Statistics, take them for what they are; a sample, a best guess based on limited data.
Many conservatives aren't ashamed of liking sex and don't give a second thought to bronze age mythology.
