This topic has been beaten to death. I hope this industry is never legalized. It will only make things worse than it is now. I am for decriminalization. Women shouldn't go to jail for having sex for money. Our body, our choice. I would also hope that along with decriminilization there would be a way to somehow require sex workers to carry protection and get tested every 3/6 months.

Thats a very good idea. You would think this country would consider that. Many Foreign Countries like Finland have decriminalized Prostitution. Escorts are required to be tested frequently. I wonder how often providers on this site get tested.

Those of us that run this as a business get tested regularly and take extra measures to stay clean, others don't. I was telling a provider the other day about the free STD clinic here in Charlotte and she said she "really didn't care for getting tested" because "she didn't want to know". Mind you she's been providing for 4 years.

If the U.S could at least adopt that one policy, it would help get rid of the sleazeballs in the industry.

I don't trust either group who tries to keep this illegal - politicians and religious leaders. Used car salesmen have more credibility than those 2 groups. Read "Eat, Drink & Be Merry" by Dr Dean Edell.

I'm not for legalization period. I don't need to be forced to come out into the open and let the world know what I am doing, and a price drop would only benefit one side lol. Even with it being legal, you can't force someone to get tested. That's a decision that should not take other people to talk you into. We should all want to know we are safe.

I think y'all misunderstand what "decriminalization" means. Under a decriminalization regime (such as New Zealand), prostitution is recognized as natural behavior, indistinct from other female behaviors like dating, so there isn't any mechanism to "require" working girls to do anything. As soon as you start creating special rules for sex workers you're in legalization, of which there are varying degrees ranging from near-decriminalized (some Australian states) to practically-illegal (Canada and UK) to partially illegal (Sweden, Norway and Iceland).

There is no need for mandatory STI testing of hookers anyhow; the rate of such infections in streetwalkers is half what it is among promiscuous non-pros such as swingers, college students and singles-bar attendees, and in escorts the rate is 1/80 what it is in streetwalkers. I agree with The Honest Courtesan; given the rates the only people who should be required to have mandatory STD checks are the amateurs.

That's it, I'm done dealing with amateurs.

Can you please elaborate? Who are the amateurs and why are you better than them?
I've never heard that term used to describe a group of sex workers. Please elaborate Angel.

Maybe she means people (men and women) who have just become introduced into the hobbyist life style. But she could have also meant something else as well because I've known ladies who have been at it for years but I consider amateurs by their lack of knowledge on certain subjects exclusively dealing with sex workers.

I'm all for decriminalization of prostitution, but making it legal and requiring all these rules and regulations? Who is going to be responsible for enforcing them, local LE, FBI?

Look how well the FDA has preformed it's job of making sure our food is safe to eat. Typical government BS. Of course guess congress could appoint a Prostitution Czar to run the agency created. The paperwork alone that providers would have to file would not leave them much time to ply the business thus reducing the crime rate and the spread of STDs. Guess again.
