As often as our plan A falls through is it OK to ask a provider to be a plan b. I can see the up and down side to this just wondering of a providers point of view?

sure, it is "OK to ask a provider to be a plan b."
however, as previous folks have said, dont be surprised if you're treated like plan "never mind"!!
i learned a lonnnnnnng time ago to NEVER let a provider know that she is a backup plan or one of several under consideration.
no upside and lots of downsides.

that's the ticket right there!
1. get pre-screened by several providers, but only if their incall location is in the area you will be in.
2. make an appt w/ "the" one. politely find out if the other providers are gonna be working that day. if they will be, let them know that if the stars align and work clears up [or whatever] that you might contact them that day. AND THANK THEM FOR THEIR TIME AND EFFORT SO FAR.
3. then, as milfy posted, if "the" one cancels or NCNS on you, contact the others and see if any of them can "squeeze" you in.
it would be nice if you did go see them as plan A in the future.
