Gov Perry's Refusal to Implement ACA
I'm sure you've heard of how Gov. Perry refuses to accept the over 100 billion dollars in federal funds to implement the affordable care act. In the state of Texas, we pay the highest in all America in covering those without health care and our premiums are skyrocketing (mom pays 500 a month!). I feel this is not simply a 'Democrat' or 'Republican' issue - its more of what is right and helping others. Getting into politics can be risky, but I'd just like to know opinions on the issue - if you stand behind Perry , tell why, and if not, also share why and some points.
There are millions of working Texans without health care...what other ways could we solve this problem and increasing premiums without accepting these federal funds (100 billion)?
Thanks for sharing, I volunteer Saturdays, so I'll chime in later this evening. No debates needed, just seeking comments and opinions, and most importantly, enlightenment from those who are for and against his refusal, knowledge is power!

That dude is the biggest ass in Texas. If you want him out more dems need to register republican then vote in the primary. The right loves a man that looks like he rides a horse. So they will keep voting for him or whatever crony they put up after him. No dem is going to win governor, you gotta pick the best devil and ride in Texas.

Essentially, Perry is making a stand for states rights without considering people. It's all about the politics and not about the people.
It's pretty astounding, in that at the end of the day, a lot of the things he opposes would actually save the state money. The state pays far less to provide family planning services, for example, than it pays for CHIP perinatal and the possibility of those children joining the CHIP program in the future. This is of course both states rights AND conservative ideals that are border on anti-woman.
Same with the idea of preventative health care. There will never come a time when hospitals will turn people away from care in an emergency situation. The amount of people that enter emergency care for non-emergent issues is insane, and the cost is insane x100. Giving better access to more reasonable care would save money in the long run.
Overall...very sad stuff.

Have you read the ACA?
Do you understand all of it and what the long term effect it will have on the states that accept it?
It is like accepting stimulus money, it comes with strings that keeps on taking and taking.....from the taxpayer.
Look around at the states that have the potential of bankruptcy. Money doesn't grow on trees and states cant print it and the "rich" folks and those on state pensions are moving away because they cant afford the taxes.
What do they call it when a person cannot see the results of their actions.

Democracy is a form of government in which all eligible citizens have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives.
Perry has no understanding of this he could care less who his decision's affect minus his good ole boy cronies .

2Dogs is right. Anyone who has taken the time to do just a minimal amount of research knows that ObamaCare (not ACA because it is not in any way affordable) is one giant step on the road to financial ruin. Yes, there are problems that need to be addressed, but ObamaCare is a typical big government solution that will not only cost more, but will degrade the quality of care.
However, it is good to see that some things never change. The liberals have no facts to back up their feelings, so they simply resort to name calling. Well done.

Road to financial ruin? Really? Every other industrialized nation has socialized health care, I do not see them ruined. As you stated there are problems that need to be addressed, at least he is doing something to address it. Is anyone else? Obamacare is not the best solution. But is is better than anything else that is NOT being done. Yes affects me negatively but it helps others. You wont hear me bitch about it.

Greece, Spain, Portugal, Do you not read or absorb any of the news of bankrupt nations that are being supported by The EU so that they are not the first domino to fall.
Wake up and take a look.
Now if you want to look at some nations that are not in trouble, make sure you look at how small their governments are in comparison.
There is a reason that the population of Texas is booming, people are coming from those "other" states to a place of sanity.
You probably do not understand why Perry refused the stimulus money either. Understand that by taking they money it =would require the state to maintain those same spending levels even after the federal money is gone. Not really such a good deal for the citizens of the State of Texas.
The great thing about Texas ans this nation is that if you do not like the way Texas is run, you can go to any other state in the union and nobody can stop you. The bad thing is that we cant stop the idiots that ruined their state from coming here and attempting to ruin ours.
