Default What was your favorite muscle car?

Well, this thread is meant for guys growing up in the 60’s. The true muscle cars were done by 1971 due to epa and insurance regulations. My favorite was the 1967 Corvette coupe. 427/435hp version with factory side pipes

When I graduated from WVU, I hunted for one locally. Couldn’t find one. I did buy a 1970 LT1 convertible. Awesome car at the time. It was 1981. Race car for the street

Nothing sounds like a high compression, carburetors and solid lifters. Nothing on the road today.

I did buy a 1969 Dodge Coronet 440rt convertible when I slid my Harley in the 90’s. It was an original car originally purchased from Baum Blrd Dodge. I semi restored it. Rebuilt the engine to 500hp. Changed the color from B7 Green to the pale mopar yellow. It had ram air so I painted the scoops matte black. Awesome car, awesome sound.

It looked just like this

Except I blacked the scoops out and the interior was tan.

DeTomaso Pantera. A great car. It had a Ford 351 Cleveland motor. Italian design. Not Ford.

While I believe the 67 corvette was the pinnacle of GM design, the Jaguar XKE was a beautiful car. Enzo Ferrari said it was. Would love to own one.

Agreed. DeTomso didn’t have a dealer network. They collaborated with Ford with the engine. They make great resto-mods with a Coyote motor now. 600hp.

Although I would rather own a vintage Ferrari than a new one.

Well, that truly is the king of the hill. I prefer the 71 Cuda design. They didn’t make many Hemis because the 440 was a more reliable and cheaper option.

I didn’t grow up in the 60’s, but my favorite American muscle car would be a 68 Chevelle SS396 or the Ford Shelby GT500 E of the same year. Was never much for mopars.
