Default Kidney stones suck

I knew I wasn't feeling good Saturday night and only got worse yesterday and couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. 5am this morning, it finally dawned on me I had a kidney stone and you can always tell when it moves because you go from miserable to relieved in a just a very few minutes.

I highly recommend you avoid them, they hurt!

OUCH! Glad it seems to have passed without a lot of treatment.

Find a roller coaster or a 20yo to ride and knock it loose.

Sorry to hear that RL. I have never had one (crossed fingers) but I hear that they are very painful.

This is the 4th one I've had in 20 years and all you can do for them is drink plenty of water and wait for it to pass.

To give an idea, the "stone" isn't very large, just large enough in most cases to go snuggly through. However, when looked at close (maybe even a magnifying glass) they look like the spikey sweet gum balls you see. Imagine one of those passing through your urethra.

I have heard that they usually manifest themselves in the morning and are often the result of evening coffee/caffeine intake.

I drink coffee as late as 6 or 7. Hope it's not my turn.

I'm glad you said that, I've been told that before and forgot about it but do it's true.

And I'm bad about not drinking enough water and you would think I know better by now. Especially since it seems like most my health issues are caused by not drinking enough.

RL:

I hope you're feeling better now. I've never had one, but you and a few other of my friends have, and all the advice is don't have them. I'm another who doesn't drink enough water - need to up my intake.

I had one the Monday after Katerina. I had been cutting up a downed cedar tree and had gotten dehydrated. I want to tell you that was the worse pain I have ever had. It was in my lower back. X-rays showed is was stuck coming out of the bladder. Finally could not stand the pain any longer & went to the ER. Gave me fluids, something for pain and a med to pass it and a strainer to catch it in. About a day later it popped out while I was peeing. Didn't hurt coming out. It was a tiny black looking stone spiney looking.
If the pain is anything like giving childbirth without pain killers, then that is the closest man can come to know what that feels like. DAMN that tiny bastard hurt. So do the bill for the ER 3 hour visit. Over $4000. No insurance at the time.

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER DAILY.

I'm so glad to hear that you were able to pass it, I've never had one although I've heard that they can be very painful. I've had to take loved ones to the ER because they were in so much pain. It's definitely true about caffeine intake, coffee, coke, etc and not drinking enough water. The doctor told us that too much milk, Tums, things high in calcium, are culprits also.
