It's been a tradition for the NABJ to invite presidential candidates to the convention since 1976

Conference in 2020 was virtual. Looks like neither Trump nor Biden attended.

In 2016, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were both invited. Clinton showed up and did a mini press conference and took questions from the assembled crowd. Trump skipped it.

Obama and W both attended in the past.

There were pro-Trump reporters in attendance. So some of the laughing was at Trump. Some was with Trump.
