Default Liberal, yes. Socialist, no.

The newest Republican sound bite that seems to have captured everyone's wishful thinking is that Democrats are socialists. It's such self-serving babble. Suddenly, and I mean suddenly, that's the buzzword among Republicans attacking Democrats. I don't know any socialists. I am a Democrat, but I am not a socialist, though I am pleased we have socialized air traffic control, a federal weather service, federal disaster relief programs, federal highways, federal farming policies, federal oversight of banking, federal river navigation, federal sea ports and social security, medicare, governmental run law enforcement and fire protection. That said, I run a small business and get pissed off at paperwork, regulations and red tape. But I manage to do okay and stay sane because I understand that oversight is necessary and it takes horsepower. I expect government to be as frugal and efficient as I am. When it isn't I get pissed. Six months ago the word socialist wasn't part of the propaganda. Then someone started pushing it as a theme and now everyone starts repeating it. Granted, some Democrats have socialist tendencies, but far from all of us. Using this blanket description to categorize an entire political party is an insult to those of us Democrats -and we are in the majority, I assure you- who are uninterested in living in a socialist country.

Until such time as Joe Biden announces he's in the race, your leading candidate for the presidency is Bernie Sanders. The Democrat who gets the most press nowadays is Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. Are they socialists? Well, they say they are. They're far to the left of any head of government in Western Europe at present, although Jeremy Corbyn may change that before long.

Mystic and others here lament the decline of the moderate Republican. Well, I lament the decline of the moderate Democrat. Hell, Barrack Obama doesn't look bad compared to Bernie, Elizabeth Warren or AOC.

You are the rare Democrat who expects the federal government will be as frugal and efficient as you are. I wish that would happen. It looks to me like the feds are mostly flushing our tax dollars down the toilet.

Socialism is economic, liberalism is political. Rush Limbaugh made liberal a dirty word and an indictment for most democrats. They said they were moderates but their actions were very liberal. So they became progressives hoping no one would notice how bad progressives were for democracy a hundred years ago. Now we have the era of the uninformed college student. They've never dealt with or lived in socialism. They walk around wearing t shirts with murderers on them. They think that they're part a rag tag group of freedom fights and not part of the party that has controlled the government for half of the last 20 years.

I'm right there with you. Well said!!

It is obvious already that the word "socialism" will be used heavily by Republicans in fear tactics for the 2020 election. I am not a Sanders supporter. I think AOC is hurting the Democratic party. I am hoping the Democrats nominate a moderate for POTUS in 2020 and those on the far left silence themselves.

Biden hasn’t declared yet. But I think even a Dickey/Bigrump ticket would beat Trump.

John McCain - in his present state - would beat Trump.

That is, if it’s Putin’s will.

Nobody ever won the White House with 35% of the vote.

I remember my stating in 2016 that there was no way Trump would win the election. We shall see how accurate your prediction for 2020 turns out to be. Of course, Biden is not yet in the race so there is that caveat in your prediction if Biden does enter the race and wins.

Republicans have become just as fiscally liberal as Democrats.

The middle is no man's land. The only way to get and stay elected is to run to a side. Those that stay in the middle are attacked by both.

We're circling the drain so we'll go down the toilet along with our tax dollars.

Any republican that says they are fiscally responsible but voted to lower taxes without spending cuts to match is simply full of shit.

Democrats that seem to want the government to pay for everything but don't understand who's funding the government.....forget about it.
