Default Mr. Trump idea of 10 to 20% general tariffs

As part of his efforts to win the election, Mr. Trump floated the idea of tariffs to replace much of the income tax. Now his idea is to impose a 10 to 20% general tariff on imported goods.

The government needs to be funded. This is Trumps way of shifting the burden. It is similar to what cities have done to pay for their sports stadiums.

Hopefully someone will be able to have Mr. Trump read up on the Smoot Hawley tariff legislation of 1930, so he can see what happened after that law was passed. I am not sure Congress is strong enough to stop him on their own.

... I hope you realise that a 1930s tariff legislation would
surely be DIFFERENT from a 2025 tariff legislation.

Every single dumbass who thinks tariffs are a good idea isn’t prepared to find out what an economic war actually looks like.

If we put a twenty percent tax on every single import what is going to stop every other country from putting a thirty percent tax on every single export we have.

Other countries will simply stop purchasing our oil, farm exports, cars, etc. etc.

Tariffs are a two way street.

You just described what happened in the 1930s.

But Trumps tariffs are going to be different ? How...a tariff is a tariff.

I can’t wait. Everyone that voted Trump for the economy should really feel the pain to come. Higher prices are exactly what we are going to get. I look forward to the spin from the right and Fox about how higher prices are good for people.

We're not a major exporter of goods other than energy and food, one reason is because of tariffs on our stuff to protect native industries, the other is the orientation of our economy towards services

What tariffs are you referring to and how do they protect our native industries?

Do you support Trump’s plan for across the board tariffs on foreign goods?

What do you think the result will be if those across the board tariffs are instituted?
