I'd imagine 3d printers would be incredibly helpful and a time saver for something like this

Do you actually have to scale models of buildings and trees and things. Or just a picture type shop

3D printers I think you can print to what scale you want it to be. That is a great idea natty675.
There use to be a railroad hobby place in Grandview off Main St. It should be Show Me Model Railroad Co. www.Showmelines.com 816-966-1534
Midwest Model Railroad in Independence MO. www.MidwestModelRR.com I believe is it.
Hope that helps.

I've been doing 3d prints for 10 years or so. Am also a 3d modeler, but not the type of modeling for trees/building etc.

I imagine you could search for models on thingiverse and there are other sites around.

Before printing, the model can be scaled to the size you need. So even if you find something the wrong size or scale it can be changed to fit your scene.

3d print is most of the time a single plastic color so some painting would be involved. There are some multi color printers out there but I find it easier to just print and paint most of the time. The multi color printers are cumbersome, and the model setup is much more complex.

The model train museum at Union Station is staffed with volunteers who absolutely love their trains. I'm sure they would have a lot of great information and be able to point you in the right direction for some local help. I'm not in that myself, I just love trains
