More counties want to secede from Colorado
http://denver.cbslocal.com/2013/07/0...olorado-grows/
Some of the shallow thinkers here will not understand so let me try to explain (like you would to a child) how this works. The first thing to bear in mind is that secession is such an important action that to even consider it has to be noted. That the people of these counties feel so disenfranchised from Denver that they would attempt this. Denver, Aspen, Aurora, and the other that have so many immigrants from places like California and New York have hijacked the culture of the state. Denver no longer represents them. Will they be successful? As I said the last time the last time I posted this (but no one noticed) it would be difficult but not impossible. Parts of Virginia seceded, parts of Massachusetts seceded, parts of Delaware have successfully seceded in the history of this country. If they can't affect a political break then they could always do a de facto separation. The counties in question set up their own shadow government, break all legal ties with Denver, and dissolve all contractual agreements.
Next we can hope for the same for eastern Calfornia which is pretty red but has to bow to the population of the three major cities on the coast (don't look them up; San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego). Maybe we can hope for Illinois to secede from Chicago next.

I think with their new tax income stream starting in '14, Denver and the south would probably welcome it as well.

You make this sound as if it is a unique occurrence that SOME people in a state are unhappy when they are not the majority.
The reality is this talk is quite common and has been going on for a long, long time.
NYC vs Upstate.
NoCal vs SoCal
WestCal vs SoCal
SoCal vs LA
El Paso vs East Texas
Eastern NM vs the Rio Grande Valley.
NW Arizona vs Phoenix
FL panhandle vs Miami
The reality is most state boundaries are the artificial result of hundreds of years old history, the speed of a horse drawn carriage, wars, papers signed by the King of England, etc. There is little if any reason to think that those driving forces would result in boundaries that make much sense today.
Personally I think we would be far better to relook at the state boundaries if we could do so in a honest apolitical way, but I have absolutely no belief that can be done. Politics today is not about logic, rationality, and common good--it has become all about "Winning" and "Our Rights".
Too bad. Without changes we will continually have unhappy parts of states wanting to break away.
I have noticed the rhetoric gets much, much louder when the minority are pretty far RW types. Not saying their arguments aren't valid, but the conservatives do seem to have a much more difficult time playing by the rules when they are the minority.

NoCal vs. SoCal was really more of a hate-hate rivalry, especially in sports. Eastern CA becoming a separate state will never happen. It's not remotely economically feasible. Most of the land is owned by the U.S. Government.
And at least get a correct Congressional districts map rather than one based on the 2000 census.
And by the way, San Francisco is #4, San Jose is #3 population-wise.

since the last time this has successfully been achieved (West Virginia from Virginia) was about 150 years ago, I think the chances of seeing Northern Colorado happen any time soon are slim and none.

Never going to happen. From Wiki
Threats or aspirations to secede from the United States or arguments justifying secession have been a feature of the country's politics almost since its birth. Some have argued for secession as a constitutional right and others as from a natural right of revolution.
In Texas v. White, the United States Supreme Court ruled unilateral secession unconstitutional, while commenting that revolution or consent of the states could lead to a successful secession.
The most serious attempt at secession was advanced in the years 1860 and 1861 as eleven southern states each declared themselves seceded from the United States and joined together to form the Confederate States of America. This movement collapsed in 1865 with the defeat of Confederate forces by Union armies in the American Civil War.

Yes but that was 150-200 YEARS AGO. Things are a bit more complicated now.
