And now Backpage?
First Craigslist buckles to pressure from Attorneys General and effectively removes Erotic Services and Adult Gigs. This morning I go to Backpage and see:
Women > Men - Under Review
No Strings Attached - Under Review
Missed Connection - Under Review
Adult Jobs - Images Under Review

CL...Backpage...can the review boards be far behind?
Remember when you had to use the yellow pages' Escort ads? What a bummer it was to check into a hotel room out-of-town and discover the Escort page was ripped out of the phone book!!!

On what basis would they be able to come after the review boards? Craigslist removed the adult services ads so as not to jeopardize the legit portion of their business. Now it seems backpage may be doing the same thing.
That threat does not exist for the review boards, or Eros, or p411 etc. To shut any of them down, it would take a legal battle, as there is no leverage to apply pressure to them (as far as I know, anyways).

I am not sure if it is ECCIE or P411 but one of them has their servers located outside the U.S. to protect themselves.

Unless that country is N Korea, the hosting company will fold under the pressure eventually. Happens all the time. All it takes is one "incident" ( real or manufactured ).

Exactly there was NO Screening and EVERYONE took a chance. Babydoll please do not take this personally as it it not meant toward you directly but the internet has brought more safety to this business. It has given girls and guys alike the abilitity to make sure the deals they are going into are more legitimate and less likley to leave them robbed, beaten or even dead.
Boards like ours are based somewhere else to keep them safe. We can still have reviews, discussions and many other subjects at our fingertips. We will just have to evolve into a smarter way of advertising.
Gotta love evolution.... ;P

Attorney General Steve Six and colleagues continue effort to crack down on online human trafficking
Sept. 21, 2010 -- Topeka, KS -- Attorney General Steve Six today joined 20 fellow Attorneys General in a letter to Backpage.com targeting the site's adult services section. The letter requests the immediate removal of the Backpage.com adult services section due to rampant ads that include the trafficking of children for sex. The letter also asks Backpage.com to put in place strict manual review policies for ads posted in other sections.
"Human trafficking is a crime that lurks in the shadows, and unfortunately the growth in human trafficking goes hand in hand with predators having easy access online at websites like craigslist and Backpage.com," said Attorney General Six. "We are asking that Backpage.com follow the lead of craigslist and take immediate action to fight the victimization of women and children who are being sold online."
There has been an ongoing investigation of online ads posted at Backpage.com since 2009. In their letter, the AGs note that Backpage.com has taken certain steps to limit the number of prostitution and human trafficking ads but with limited success. In the letter, the AGs write, "Once you began charging for ads in the adult services section of the site, prostitution began migrating into certain sections of the personals section, so you began to charge to posts ads in that section as well. We urge you to take additional efforts, such as manual review of each ad in theses sections of the personals -- and others if it becomes necessary -- before ads are posted."
Backpage.com has indicated in an earlier letter that their attempts to charge a fee for their adult services section have led to predators moving their business to different sections of the site.
"Taking down this section would be an important step in our efforts to combat the victimization of children across the country," said Attorney General Six. "The problem of human trafficking is a growing one, and we need to take all available actions to crack down on these predators. It is vital that we shine a light on this crime."
In closing the letter, the Attorneys General write, "We sincerely hope backpage, like craigslist, will finally hear the voices of the victims, women and children, who plead with it to make this important change. We too, call on backpage to listen, to care, and respond now by shutting down the adult services section of its website. It is the right thing to do to protect innocent women and children."
The letter is signed by Attorneys General from Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia

I've never used BP so I might not be understanding this fully....do MEN pay for escort ads on BP? You've purchased three escort ads and you are unsure whether to renew your advertisements? Do you have ladies working for you or something? I don't understand...

No Girl i totally agree with you 100, but if all the sites shut down their escorting sections, then what are you going to do?
Stopn providing?
or
post up on a street corner?
or
walk the hotel bar?
Im just sayn that this game will always be out there, if we can post on the internet or not, its not the end of the world, just a hell of alot safer!!

First of all, if all the sites shut down I'd get a real job before I beat pavement and take car dates for it. I'd say it's not about a dependency on the internet, it's more like a dependency on providing as a sole means of income without furthering yourself but I digress.
The fact of the matter is, screening does exist, and those days of extreme risk taking are over. Unfortunately, I predict the number of worthless alerts with little to no information due to a lack of screening, increases drastically around here, as well as fucked up fonts and use of ebonics and slang in ads and posts. This also increases my own personal entertainment so I guess it's not all bad...
