If a provider doesn’t except cash and wants you to buy an eBay gift card or similar. Does that mean it’s a scam?

Scam. No legit provider will insist on them.

Robbed. Or more likely you would get a text about needing a sitter/gas/room money and they’ll insist you send the code or take a picture of it. Then, something will come up to cancel the appointment. Or they ghost you completely.
