Default Sad thing in Omaha's Old Market area downtown

I'm sure many people here have seen it on local news, but in case some ladies traveling don't know, an Iconic Place in downtown Omaha burned down on Saturday, M's Pub.

Story here in the Omaha paper http://www.omaha.com/news/metro/hist...d7df72dd9.html

M's Pub is the oldest restaurant in the Old Market in Omaha on 11th street between Howard St and Farnam St. It had a great wide ranging menu, and even had some Kosher dishes for people that followed the Jewish faith.

There are a couple other restaurants nearby and a clothing store that may have been damaged. Probably not from flames, but smoke and water damage. It was very cold, so even some water lines from the fire trucks iced up. ( air temps started at 10 and slipped below 0 )

Not a hundred percent sure, but it appears a natural gas leak caused an explosion. Luckily no one was killed, and from what I have read one person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

That place was awesome. So sad . Im just glad everybody made it okay. The thing that scares me is that the lady that first smelt the gas had to go find the workers that hit the line and ASK them if they hit the line. What wouldve happened if she didn't do that? When exactly did they plan on letting them know?? Thats really scary.

From what i saw on the news they had so much trouble putting out the fire bc it was so damn cold. Maybe that had something to do with it.

Yea if the explosion takes everything out. But this did not. The systems are not tied together. As soon as whatever happened down below the above stories sprinklers if there were any should have activated.

Still worthless Blue, you can't get enough water to put that kind of heat and fire out with a sprinkler system.

On top of that, MUD didn't get the gas turned off for two hours. At that point all you can do is try to contain it.
