A proud Democrat, and a patriot, too, despite what Trump says.
I reject the weird, incoherent, irrational and outlandish accusations the president of our nation is spouting. I am not a socialist or a Marxist or a hater of my country. But because I am a Democrat our President accuses me of being those things. I am a proud Democrat, and I enthusiastically support free enterprise, as do all of my friends who are members of the Democrat party. We also support a frugal, lean and service-oriented government, not a bloated government that feeds on special interest extravagance. I want my government prepared to lead and solve problems when the circumstances demand civic-minded leadership and problem-solving. I am hoping we can make some progress regarding the complex and emotional issues of racial equality. That doesn’t mean I would support sacrificing any other demographic in the process of trying to be successful in our quest to settle racial issues. Also, I do not hate law enforcement, nor do I think we should unfund the police. But because I am a Democrat the president accuses me of supporting looters and violent protesters and cheering on violence directed at law enforcement. It’s more of the “us versus them mentality” that Trump persistently advances. I resent President Trump’s simplistic, unfounded accusations regarding mainstream, hard-working, constructive Democrats. I resent him saying that he is more patriotic than me. I shrug when I hear him say that AOC is taking over the Democratic Party. Nope, not happening. Neither is Stacey Abrams or Bernie Sanders taking over the party. Trump is propping up boogeymen, igniting smoke screens and inventing shallow and baseless notions to drive a wedge between Americans. His style is to ridicule, disrespect and divide. Isn’t that just what we need as we battle the grave uncertainties of a national health crisis?

Excellent! Now you understand what it feels like for all Republicans to be accused of being racist, xenophobes and people that want to throw granny off a cliff.
I am a proud Democrat, and I enthusiastically support free enterprise, as do all of my friends who are members of the Democrat party.
But you now have prominent members of "your" party, who do not support free enterprise otherwise known as capitalism. Is it fair to call them out especially the ones who proudly call themselves Socialist?
We also support a frugal, lean and service-oriented government, not a bloated government that feeds on special interest extravagance.
OK, you and your friends but there exists in the Democratic party, now more than ever, people that have no interest at all in a frugal, lean government and seem to be only interested in "special interest" groups like those that put the needs and wants of illegal people over legal citizens.
I want my government prepared to lead and solve problems when the circumstances demand civic-minded leadership and problem-solving.
And is that what members of your party are doing in the streets burning and looting and calling it problem solving?
I am hoping we can make some progress regarding the complex and emotional issues of racial equality.
And we are going to do that by calling all police racists, that go out every shift looking for Blacks to abuse and kill? Is calling all police the enemy of Black people a way of dealing with the complex and emotional issues of racial equality? Is telling White people that they must stop being "so White" a way to accomplish those goals?
That doesn’t mean I would support sacrificing any other demographic in the process of trying to be successful in our quest to settle racial issues.
You're kidding right? White people aren't being asked to make sacrifices, even those that have made sacrifices and continue to make sacrifices
Also, I do not hate law enforcement, nor do I think we should unfund the police.
Then you and your friends disagree with a substantial number of those in your party. And is taking money away from the police for more training and more recruits not defunding? If more social workers are necessary, why does that money necessarily have come from police? The people that will be hurt the most by less police presence are poor minorities. Re-directing funds that go to law enforcement is defunding the police.
But because I am a Democrat the president accuses me of supporting looters and violent protesters and cheering on violence directed at law enforcement.
Anybody from any party that does not speak out against looting and violence, is complicit in it. Continuing to say that "most protesters" are non violent in the wake of all the violence is cowardly and I believe only done now, in this moment, for political reasons. It is not enough to say one is against this violence and then support the release without punishment, anybody that engages in such activity? Who do you suppose is transporting bricks and bats to protestors to be used against the police, Republicans?
It’s more of the “us versus them mentality” that Trump persistently advances.
Oh! So the people being fired from their jobs because of their political affiliation is not advancing an "us against them mentality"? Writing books by Democrats pitting Blacks against Whites isn't an us against them mentality?
I resent President Trump’s simplistic, unfounded accusations regarding mainstream, hard-working, constructive Democrats.
And I resent the leadership of the Democrat party doing the exact same thing.
I resent him saying that he is more patriotic than me.
And I resent being called un-patriotic if I have any opinion other than that promulgated by the Democrats.
I shrug when I hear him say that AOC is taking over the Democratic Party. Nope, not happening.
Then you are blind, naive or perhaps a little of both.
Neither is Stacey Abrams or Bernie Sanders taking over the party.
How about "re-directing" the party. Would that suit your sensibilities better? I just posted an article in another thread from the Washington Post that says Bernie and AOC have pushed the party further left than ever before. This Democratic party is to the left of Obama.
Trump is propping up boogeymen, igniting smoke screens and inventing shallow and baseless notions to drive a wedge between Americans.
And BLM is not?
His style is to ridicule, disrespect and divide. Isn’t that just what we need as we battle the grave uncertainties of a national health crisis?

I'd say Trump is exactly what we need to get through this crisis and get back to the best economy he brought, in decades.

Muy Largo, very well said. No matter what one's political views are, it is wrong to stereotype all as being the same in their views.

That is your opinion and although I disagree with it I support your right to vote for the person who best represents your political viewpoints.

It is kind of sad that the rabble who supported the French Revolution did not support beheading the king, queen, and children of the royal family. The unwashed masses of the Russian Revolution did not condone the murder of the Czar and his family. The modern American democrat probably doesn't support beating people with bike locks, skateboards, or throwing Molotov cocktails but you will prevent arrests, you will protest those arrests, and you will remain silent to the vandalism and violence. If you don't speak up then you are just as guilty as the Germans who stood by and allowed Hitler to start a war. You are also as guilty as the southerners in 1860 and 1960 who let their leaders abuse a part of the population.
You are guilty and do deserve the recrimination unless you purge your ranks of the cancer that is threatening the democrat party. It is most certainly not threatening the GOP so it most be a democrat thing going back decades.

And if you support Trump, and everything he stands for then you are as guilty, and as unworthy of support as he is.

I wish we could be treated based upon our individual views - but typically any white person who doesn't accept the left wing viewpoints gets called a racist.

HF and FF - well written.
The DPST's are blind to their own Hypocrisy!
and in Denial of the dominance of the Leftists radicals like AOC which dominate their party.
Evidence - Engles primaried out in favor of a Radical progressive - another 'squad member"!!
Ted Wheeler - Porland Oregon mayor - is in full support of the radicals attackinig teh Federal Courthosue - vandalism , broken windows, and assaulted officers.
The radicals are using the violence to brak down civil order in their plan to replace representative democracyh with a marxist autocracy.
Civil War is coming!
SR - you are a smart guy - however, i feel You are not paying attention to Reality!
