Windows Vs. Apple
Which do you prefer and why?
My college semester is starting shortly and I want a new laptop. A friend is trying to convince me to get an Apple laptop although the prices are high and I'm wondering what exactly you're paying for. I will admit that I detest windows 8 but was thinking about getting another Windows program.
So which is your favorite? Windows or Apple? And if Windows which brand of laptop would you say is the best to get?
Thank you!!

It depends what you want it for. If you are going to use Excel files, apple has some compatibility issues when transferring files from one machine to the other. If you are doing it for school... where you may have to share files with other people, just get a PC.
I use a Mac for my every day screwing around in the web and editing stuff, but that is pretty much it. I don't share Microsoft files with anyone. It works great this way. I will have to get a PC once I go back to school. Some of the engineering software doesn't work natively on apple operating systems and it can be a pain in the ass just to get it to work. I would have to use Bootcamp and partition my hard drive to run Windows. I just rather have another computer for school purposes.

Windows 8 is the norm now for windows laptops, so if you are already hesitant then I would go Apple. Personally I love my Surface(Windows) for school, it is basically a tablet that also works as a laptop. To me it works better than an iPad but I would say go to best buy and just play with both types to see which you like.

Unless you plan on going into the graphic arts career, I would suggest getting a windows based PC. 95+ % of businesses use windows based pc's.

Apple, hands down. And there are absolutely no compatibility issues with Microsoft Office. I've switched files between my Mac and Windows computer at work for years and there are no issues at all. It's really hard to explain how much better the Mac OS is over Windows. You just have to use one and then, trust me, you will NEVER want to go back to Windows. Yes, Macs are more expensive, but they last much longer and rarely crash (if ever). I used to go through one Windows laptop a year because they would crap out on me. In 2007, I switched over to a Mac laptop and still use it to this day! Seven years and never a single problem with it.

Apple all the way. They work and outlast windows based machines. I also like the fact that the operating system on my iPhone, iPad and laptop are the same. Techies- I am aware they are not actually the same operating system but they all work virtually the same way.
If you need windows for a specific application you can run windows on an apple and it runs better than on a windows based machine.

You can choose a Windows PC and not have to settle for Windows 8. HP, Dell, Toshiba and others continue to offer a variety of desktop and laptop machines with Windows 7.

Are you retarded? Go through one windows laptop a year because they would crap out on you? I have a windows laptop that I bought in 2008 that still works.

Yep. I have a Windows desktop system that is just about ten years old and is still going strong. You build them right and take care of them and they will definitely take care of you.

Wow a lot of great input! I'm getting my degree in Business Management Information Systems as a back up degree. I already have a career where I've been licensed but I just want a back up just in case. Is Asus a good brand if I do go with Windows? Another thing that everyone made me think about is what would be best for my degree program. Something I will also have to discuss with my school to see what they also suggest. For those that use Mac, do you use it mainly for home use or work?

Check with your school and see what they recommend. My daughter attends one of the smaller local universities and they provide everyone with a full Windows install including M$ Office.

Apple all the way. If you want to partition windows on the drive you can. I just use parallels. I use my MacBook Air for my Cisco, CCNA, training. Never an issue with the newer MacBook Pro retinas or macbook airs or new iMacs. I'm also Mac certified.

I have a Mac and it sucks that you can't put pop-up blocking software on it. You have to sit through youtube commercials, ads and all that BS.
