who is your ISP and how fast is your speed?
It's going to be a year or so before GoogleFIber is up and working here, so I currently have CLEAR internet service
I like it cos it's just a box that uses cell towers to give me internet,
I dont like it cause it's $45/month and seems slow although I can stream netflix
Test your speed here
http://www.speedtest.net/
I am about a 3Mbps down and 1.5 up
I am looking to see if i can get faster service that is as easy as Clear to use.
thanks

I finally got Google Fiber hooked up last week and the speed is sick! My main pc is hardwired via a gigabit nic and it was worth the wait. Running speed test, I had 990 Mb! down and 980 Mb! up. My laptops are slower due to being wireless but they are still faster than what Time Warner had.
Interesting thing with Time Warner though. When I went to disconnect my service, the customer service rep, when he found out I had Google Fiber, offered the Sun, The Moon, and all the stars to stay with them. They offered all the movie packages, sports packages, basically everything they had PLUS gigabit internet access for $120 a month. I still told them it was too much...lol It seems they are losing business left and right and are trying to stop the bleeding. The only caveat was they only offered this to areas getting Google Fiber. So if you don't have it in your area, you don't get the deal. Things that make you go hmmmm.....

how fast are your laptops?
how is your main PC hardwired?
Did they have to drill holes in your home? I think Att had to do that, or used existing outlets to install a ethernet plug,, I never liked them and their variable pricing

holy cow
that is a huge difference compared to a wired network UNLESS you just have GF basic internet plan, with a max of
UP of 1mbps and download of 5
which you are close to having
do you just have the basic plan?
or maybe the wrong equipment

I assume a "gigabit nic" is a gigabit network card?
GF tells you how to get better wireless speeds

Bear in mind that much of this has to do what server you are using to do the measuring against. If everybody is not using the same server, then the measurements are almost worthless. For instance, I got speeds almost 1/3 faster when choosing a server in Orlando, FL compared to KCMO. Weird, when you consider I'm in Topeka, but that's how it worked out.

not according to the nerds at http://forums.majorgeeks.com/
it's just an average to see whom to use
the clear winner is GF. Im just going to have to "suffer" with under
but that number is worthless.. eh?

I've only experienced internet issues(unable to stream netflix once) since I've used clear
which is slow as hell, but so easy to use, (no wires, just a box I plug in and use either with a cord or wi-fi and at $30-$45/month, it's cheap
within a year, I'll get GF and I'll be shocked by the speeds, even just using wi-fi
