Cool Will Texas Secede?

Are you aware that if the Federal Government shuts down for more than 21 days, by state law Texas can secede from the United States!
What say you? Good/bad idea.
If we do secede, should we "relax" laws for ASPs ???

If true? Make prostitution legal and a tax exempt industry.

A couple of questions. First, where is this written? Second, you do realize that most of the government is open, don't you? Only a few departments are shut down.

Current Supreme Court precedent, in Texas v. White in 1869, holds that the states cannot secede from the union by an act of the state. The Union's victory set a precedent that states could not legally secede. ... In contrast, the U.S. Constitution contains procedures for admitting new states into the nation, but none for a state to leave. Yet the myth that Texas can easily secede persists, in part, because of the state's history of independence. More recently, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia stated, "If there was any constitutional issue resolved by the Civil War, it is that there is no right to secede."

One is reluctant to ever say something with certainty without carefully researching it, but I strongly suspect you are gravely mistaken about yiuassertion in what the law is, even apart from White v. Texas. Do you have any reference to the law in question?

Of course he or she doesn't. Secession is the single most
ridiculous notion anyone could mention.

Perry, and other ass hat politicians bring it up to stir up the shit kickers who enjoy fucking their sisters & cousins. They absolutely know it's dumber than cutting one's own dick off.

Texas won't secede. Neither will anyone else. It's fucking stupid to think they would. It's even stupider to think that the prostitution laws would be relaxed, since the people who want to secede are the same hardcore Republicans that stand for "family values" and cramming religion-based laws down our throats.

I know the anarchists among us aren't big on thinking things through, but you do NOT want the secessionist politicians to start REALLY running things, mmkay?

You know how much Texas is latched to the Federal tit? Look at the Federal jobs, look at how much Federal money is in every city's spending (grant money, etc).

Didn't Texas hinted at seceding a few years ago over some dispute between the State and the Fed and the U.S. Attorney General in the Southern District said go ahead, we will shut down all air traffic in and out of Texas.

EDIT:

NEVER MIND. It wasn't about Texas seceding, it was about this:

https://reason.com/blog/2011/05/25/f...-fly-zone-over

But if Texas were to even hint at wanting to Secede, I am sure the Fed can use this threat again.

You've got that backwards: only a few departments are funded, plus the military.

Texas was admitted to the union under a joint resolution in 1845. That resolution allowed a future subdivision to allow up to four more states - nothing about secession.

And this will never happen. As the great writer Dan Jenkins wrote in one of his books, who would get the Alamo?
