Why is it absurd? Our galaxy is one of an estimated one hundred billion in the observable universe. Why is it so absurd to think we're the only ones in this one? And who's to say if we aren't, that they would even have any interest in meeting us? When you walk by a worm on the sidewalk, you don't give any notice to the worm. If they are able to travel to us, chances are, we're the worm. They gain nothing by interacting with us.

the milky way galaxy nor the universe at large can't possibly be devoid of other life. the math says so. besides, it would be a waste of a perfectly good universe if man is all there is after 13.7 Billion years.
that said, it doesn't mean scores of alien life have visited here. it also doesn't mean they haven't. is it possible the Government has covered up extraterrestrial contact? Yes it is. should they disclose it? maybe, maybe not. the ensuing panic and of course collapse of religion and society would be catastrophic. maybe it would be better if they didn't but also prepared for an alien threat in secret, as a unified planet. remember this ..
