"Safer" ? What's safe about driving from your home to the grocery store? Over 40,000 people a year are killed in motor vehicle crashes in the USA. Even if you consider that number to be relatively small compared to the amount of vehicles on the road, many many more people are permanently disfigured, maimed, and paralyzed (que auto accident attorneys). Statistical probability is something to look at. Even in the worst cities like Baltimore less than 3% of the population has documented STDs. I think I'd rather be going to my doctor and getting antibiotics, than having a paramedic pull me out of a wrecked vehicle, thanks...
