You can always wait 20 minutes, then text that you’ve arrived and see what happens. If they ask for a deposit to tell you the room number, it would have been a waste of time.

If they give you a room number it’s more likely to be legit.

Just use a burner number, and if things seem like they are checking out use a different burner number to restart the process but this time you actually show up.
