Default I must love insomnia...

...cause I am so damn good at it. Sheesh.

Stuff that knocks most people out keeps me awake. Anyone have a good rememdy that doesn't involve a prescription?

And for the record, mojitos are only good for a 2 hour nap.

If your overweight you probably have apena if you snore at all chances are you suffer from apena. Go have a sleep study done and find out. Best thing I ever did to be honest. I suffered for over a decade before breaking down and getting mine treated. I now feel so much better now. I dont sleep a lot 6 hours a night but its 6 hours of real sleep. Makes a huge difference in your health across the board to get proper rem sleep

I do have sleep apnea and I use a cpap. I think my problem is more sinuses, allergies and oddly enough, weather.

It's a Catch-22 in that if I take something that handles the allegies, I'm not going to sleep from the medicine. And if I don't take something for allergies, I'm not going to sleep from the sinus pressure.

Now when it's all balanced, the cpap does help me rest. I just hate sneezing in the damn thing...you can't always get the mask off in time.

Try melatonin, its a natural supplement and no script necessary. There was an OTC cold medicine I took several months ago when I was fighting off a chest cold, I can't remember the name though. It had a sleep aid and it knocked me out.

Melatonin and chamomile tea are only herbal things I know. However, the other XXXX that is XXXXX in XXXXXXXX helps too.

I forgot about melatonin, thanks yall! Might as well try the chamomile tea too. Others have told me about it but I never tried it. Might as well do both.

Nicolet, anything that is labled "sleep" will keep me awake. Bizarre I know. Stuff will knock anyone else out just worsens my insomnia.

This is actually not true or at least thats what the sleep dr's say.

"A new review of 27 studies shows that alcohol does not improve sleep quality. RL, along with the melatonin, turn off all electronic devices like the TV, computer, iPad/phone or at least quit watching them at least 30 minutes before bed time. Grab a book or magazine (not porn, that'll just excite you...lol!) and read for a bit or listen to music that is soothing to you. Don't do anything but sleep or screw in the bed, watching TV, computer, reading, etc will "train" your mind in ways that will hinder sleep. Lavender scents also help relax according to the "experts". I have my moments that I just can't sleep and it sucks. I feel your pain.

Basscat - I was kidding!

Moonchild - a mod from another area did a RTM on your post for drug reference. I have to assume it was not about meletonin and chamomile tea (at least I hope not), so I have removed the words that are associated with a drug. Drug references are not allowed, apparently even when vaguely mentioned.

Man, insomnia sucks! Definitely check out the more natural herbal remedies and like disizme2k16 suggested unplug from everything, pick up a book, get comfortable. I've started doing deep breathing exercises when I'm feeling antsy and can't sleep. It helps clear my head. I did read that although alcohol initially helps you fall asleep it actually disrupts your REM sleep. I wish you the best of luck that you'll find something that helps.

Well I did as suggested, took the melatonin and unplugged from the world...slept like a fat puppy.

Thanks for all the suggestions, when I go too long without sleep I forget the things that work.

I have used the melatonin now and again. It appears to cause me to have vivid dreams. Did you experience more dreams?

I normally have vivid dreams without the melatonin, it just seemed to be longer dreams for me this time. Almost like a movie length dream.
