Default Socialism at work: Venezuela runs out of toilet paper.

No shit. Literally:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013...r-shortage-50m

The government blames "excess demand". WTF?

How are Venezuelans supposed to reduce demand? Hold it in?

When I was stuck in Mexico that year, I only saw about 5 families rich enough to even HAVE toilet paper. Most people used corn cobs or leaves or paper of some kind.

Toilet paper and tampons were THE TWO things I wanted more than shampoo. If you prep at all, I'd suggest these two in excess. Even if you're a dude, you'll make tons of chick friends if you're the one with tampons. I think I might have about 700 by now.

The VZ government is also trying to blame a large food manufacturer for purposely cutting back production and causing food shortages. It's the governments way of trying to draw attention away from their own failures and blaming someone else.

The situation in VZ is really bad. A friend of mine just went back to VZ to visit her family. She brought about 2 pounds of powdered eggs with her because real eggs are either hard to get or very expensive in VZ. The fucking government has failed at socialism (what a surprise, it hasn't worked anywhere). The only ones who do well are the top government officials and their goons.

More socialism please! I want to dedicate hours every day to trying to find basic necessities! We need long lines just to buy bread and milk here!

I understand that Chavez took it with him.

Of course we have an ammunition shortage in this country. Even have civilians supplying the police with ammunition.

Chavez was in power for about a decade and reduced the economy to rubble with his third way.

So, of course, he blames the group that has had effectively NO power during that time.

More straight poop on the shortage:

http://www.thedailybeast.com/article...st+Articles%29

Key quote:
------------------------------------
The combination of price controls and currency controls spells trouble. While they can be good for consumers in the short run, they can be bad in the long run. If the government sets the price of any good—shoes, oil, wheat, or paper products—at a price below what it costs someone to make and distribute it, there’s no incentive for local suppliers to meet the demand. Say government policy stipulates that a roll of toilet paper must cost 50 cents, but the supplies and labor used to make a roll cost 52 cents. Local producers would simply stop producing, or find ways to export their products to neighboring countries where they might bring a higher price, or sell them on the black market. The result: scarcity for domestic consumers. In theory, when domestic suppliers reduce capacity and production, imported products could pick up the slack. But currency controls make it difficult for companies in Venezuela to import goods freely.

You don’t have to be an Ayn Rand devotee to understand that when there’s little or no possibility of profit from an economic activity, the market will stop providing it.
