Looking for a decent whiskey bar near the fairgrounds, for Labor Day weekend. It's been a couple years so thought I'd ask (other than CJs or Gerris).

Whisky bars? CJs or Gerris? OK, whatever. Google "Des Moines" and home in on the area around the fairgrounds and check out the perimeter streets. There's dive bar Toad's on 30th one block north of University and the NW corner of the fairgrounds. Four blocks east on Walnut is a biker headquarters bar. Or just park at the capitol parking lot or downtown, get drunk someplace there, and shuttle bus over to the fair.

Here ya go UC - I’d bet you’d like it Bud. The fairgrounds area isn’t real far but that area is way more blue collar. Gerris wings are great for sure tho! Pm me if you want more ideas. I do miss living in KC - Peanut �� for the wings for me

best bet for good scotchs has always been Royal Mile in downtown area.
Foundry Distillery in West Des Moines has done some good ones as well.
