Anyone been to Africa?
I am going to Africa soon for educational purposes and was wondering if anyone has been?
If so, are there any must visit places or any tips, precautions, advice?
Random question lol. But Africa is gonna rock!!

I work over there now. All going to depend on which part of Africa you are going to.

It's an enormous continent. Depends on where you go. I have been to Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and South Africa. They are all different.

I've been to Zimbabwe-- but it was several years ago(2005-ish). I've also been to South Africa, but was too young to really remember that trip.

I've been accepted to work on a conservation campaign (I will be working with lions on a fame reserve) South Africa and I can't wait!
From what I hear, Africa can be dicey as hell depending on where you are going.

South Africa, like JoBurg and Cape Town aren't too bad.
East Africa, I am not too sure of but have not heard real good things.
Angola from what I understand is developing. Lots of oilfield / offshore.
Nigeria is same as Angola as far as oilfield, but is completely screwed up / corrupt.
Sierra Leone and Liberia - Umm, yeah. Pass. Ebola infested, VERY limited services of any kind.
Then of course you have Ghana, which from what I understand is not that bad. More civilized than some, but not as much as Cape Town or JoBurg.
If you give me an idea of where you are going to go, I can get more info. Some of the guys I work with have done Safari Trips, Jungle Trips, etc. If you are looking for P4P areas, I can help you with that too.
Like has been said, Africa is a big damn place. If you want to narrow it down, to say a country perhaps, instead of an entire continent, might be able to get some better results / info for you.

Four of my team, from the service, took a gig guarding diamond shipments in Angola, in the 70's. I couldn't wait for the year to be up. Pure hell hole.

This may be a dumb question but how well does the American Dollar fare down there?
It is mainly going to take place in South Africa
& the rough itinerary is:
Landing in London
Arriving in Johannesburg, visiting museums and game farms, etc.
Traveling to Ghanzi, Botswana - camping at national parks
Traveling to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Traveling back to Botswana, then to Grasp
Visiting the famous Kruger national park
spending the rest of the time in Swaziland
Thats roughly it
it is a trip to learn about the wildlife in South Africa. But there are plenty free days scattered in between for fun. As well as some hot chick who works at Twin Peaks lol, I'll be in that hopefully.

I lived there, worked there, and did Spain to Cape Town on a R100GS. Safety is dependent on where you are going! My eastern African trip was no problem, my western trip only made it to Lagos before my bike was stolen and I had to hitch a ride on Arik Air back to Amsterdam.

Victoria Falls is beautiful. I did a photo safari in Zimbabwe that included the falls Being a pretty pale girl.. I got quite a few stares in Bulawayo walking the markets.

Well looks like you have a pretty decent trip planned out so I would not worry about it. I do suggest that you get some malarone if you haven't already. Make sure all your shots are up to date and carry plenty of deet.
The areas you listed will be just fine, but just remember, you are going to be in a foreign land so keep your head about you. There will most likely by all kinds of people trying to hustle you. Pretty much their way of life.
Not real sure on exchange rates, but always exchange your money at a trusted source...ie bank, or in the airport in JoBurg. Dont let some guy walk up and offer to change american money for you. Lots of counterfeit stuff out there from what I have been told, plus you get a shit rate.
Looks like different countries, so not sure about standard currency. Might check with whoever is in charge of this trip.

The yellow fever shot is probably going to knock your dick in the dirt if you havent had it before. They use live virus, so just plan on getting sick for a day or so. Its not bad, but still. Make sure you got tylenol and you dont plan on doing anything for a couple days after you get the shot.
Also look into meningitis, and the Hep A / B shots. And while you are at it, get a flu shot too.
