Default What's the Purpose of This Section?

A quick question about board structure. What's the purpose of this section?

Yes, it's national discussion. But does that discussion have to pertain to the hobby? The blurb in the gray box suggests it has to, but yet I see movie trivia quotes, etc. Perhaps there should be a more clear deliniation between on topic and off topic national discussion.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this subject?

Nope, but with 140 Threads I guess it has it structure, I think it is just fine as is.

I agree. This should be related to hobby-only issues. All the other stuff belongs in other forums. I suggest a non-hobby forum that can take political speech, etc.

Hmmm. . .I guess I did not read that gray box the way you did.

I would tend to think there should be a place for games and general discussions to accommodate non-hobbying interactions on the national forum if that strict definition is followed as you seem to be suggesting.

Especially given the mission statement to become a national identity, rather than a regional one.

If anything eliminate all local extraneous threads that are not directly related to the hobby on regional forums and keep those strictly national to encourage vigorous activity and build that national community.

Of course the owners, admins, and mods will have final say, and hopefully some will chime in here with some guidance.

"General discussions pertaining to the hobby, but not limited to your local scene."

Pretty hard to read it any other way. I think splitting it into two -- National Discussion Forum Hobby Related and a National Discussion Forum Non-Hobby Related -- would be helpful. Frankly, I don't want to wade through the non-hobby related stuff. It's not too bad now, but as the board grows, it will become cumbersome, rather than simply annoying.

Perhaps we should await guidance from the admins and moderators on this.

I think it would be best to have this section for only hobby related posts. I also think that it would be good to have a National Forum for non-hobby related posts.

There are several threads from different regional sandboxes that I follow and contribute. If there were a national forum for these posts, I am sure there would be more interaction.

Good point, Kohana.

Of course if we follow TexTushHog logic to the extreme even this thread should not be posted here. It should have been posted here instead:

[ame="http://www.eccie.net/forumdisplay.php?f=79"]Member Suggestions and Feedback - ECCIE - Your source for escort reviews[/ame]

If we are going to follow the gray box descriptions to the letter of the law that is. . .

It doesn't matter to me, but since there was no sandbox or similar venue on the national board I started the MQT and other lighter-side post in the national forum.

Hopefully those in charge of the board will carve out a place for folks to just have fun and talk on the national board and then move MQT and other such threads "out of the way" so everyone can be happy.
