It happens to me too. It's very helpful when you are in the office and it locks for like 30 seconds on the eccie page. There is also a popup associated with this lag. Are you using chrome ?

It would not hurt to run a scan once and a while. Try running Spybot Search and Destroy and then a Malwarebytes.
Other things to look at is make sure java, flash and your browser is fully up to date and clean out your browser history and cache regular. There is a free and kick ass little program called CCleaner that with one push of the button clears that out for you. It also will clean your registry.

Avast! plain rocks, it might be the best anti-virus out there.

Expert Technician
Sorry, but I think you will need an expert technician to look into your laptop, but be cautious and don't let him talk you into wiping your entire hard drive clean and reinstalling your operating system unless you don't have many programs already loaded. That is the easy way for them, but a difficult option for you.
Expect to pay about $200 if you have to take your laptop in, but try better antivirus programs before you do.
Personally, I believe that the many enemies of this board target this site with specific viruses to discourage members from joining or staying..
Also, I would get rid of McAfee immediately, that program is worthless sort of like the doofus mod running this forum. Every IT expert I've talked to confides in me that McAfee used to be a decent program years ago, but now is just a pos. I got rid of it ages ago and use Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials.
. . . Also, remember that the longer the problem persists, the deeper the virus burrows into your hard-drive and replacement will be your only option.

Try a different browser. Say like Chrome when accessing ECCIE.

I have the same issue when signing onto eccie. I use Chrome as browser of choice as FireFox used to lock up on me in chat. I also use Avast, so I don't think it's a anti-virus issue either

I can help check it for you. If minor issue, can help you with fix but most probably can help you point out the reason.

I have a problem with Firefox locking up due to flash chat. This happened on youtube and a lot of sites. I did some research and ended up disable silverlight addon and disabling VLC addon. This fixed it for me, if you have VLC installed, try disabling that first in the addons options.
Worked for me and eccie chat never crashed on me, but I've only been there a hand full of times.

If you have a old laptop, invest in a new SSD and clone your existing drive in to it, will run real fast... If you have a new laptop then make sure you clean up as mentioned above.
also whenever you buy a laptop from the shop it comes with all advertising and tracking material pre-installed from the manufacturer, myself I typically format the drive and install a fresh vanilla system from a Original MS windows installer. that way I control whats installed on my laptop..
