Default Oregon Fails Obamacare

From Andrew Sullivan's website. It's a compilation of comments on Oregon's clusterfuck implementation of the ACA.

I haven't seen much attention to this in the Political Forum:

http://dish.andrewsullivan.com/2014/...ils-obamacare/

Government incompetence fun amok at both the state and federal level.

Key quote:
-------------------------------
[A] recent hearing in DC highlighted how many of the states still lack a plan to sustain operations in the coming years. All claimed to not require additional federal funding, but even the executive director of the California exchange had to push back on independent assessments that they would be unable to sustain in future years. Hawaii was of special note, given that they don’t have any concrete plans for how to finance themselves yet.

The Obama Administration has started to show malleability in how long states have to spend establishment funds, Rhode Island being the first example of this. But those funds will eventually run out, and a GOP-run Congress is unlikely to provide a blank check to keep them running.

Or we could just argue about the NBA owner and his bimbo.

Oregon is one of a number of states (Minnesota is another) where state officials tried to set up their own Obamacare program and web site, called Cover Oregon. In Oregon, as elsewhere, the effort has been a disaster, as not a single person has been able to sign up on the state’s web site. The fiasco has become a political liability for Governor John Kitzhaber, who is running for re-election this year. There is also a bit of scandal brewing:

From the WSJ.... Your tax dollars at work!

Uncover Oregon

The state flushes $300 million down the ObamaCare drain.

April 24, 2014 7:35 p.m. ET

"This thing is working," President Obama instructed the other day, and liberals got the message to ignore ObamaCare's ongoing dysfunctions. The reality is different, especially in states like Oregon, which pulled the plug on its insurance exchange on Thursday.

Democratic Governor John Kitzhaber promised to lead the nation on ObamaCare and he did—from behind. The worst-in-America launch collapsed even harder than Healthcare.gov. The exchange website known as Cover Oregon still hasn't enrolled one person, and the state has spent about $7 million signing up merely 69,000 people manually using paper applications.

An internal audit ordered by Mr. Kitzhaber concludes that Cover Oregon's architects were doomed by multi-agency bureaucratic confusion with no quality control or accountability for results. Investigators at the KATU news station uncovered evidence suggesting that Cover Oregon officials created a fake website to create the illusion of progress for the feds, who made ObamaCare grants that totalled $303 million.

An advisory panel voted for the state to revert to the federal exchange, though White House officials leaked to the Washington Post that they were already planning to annex the exchange. The real goal is rescuing the career of Senator Jeff Merkley. Oregon leans liberal but he may be endangered amid this growing state scandal and his 60th Senate vote for the health law in 2010. Likely GOP challenger Monica Wehby is a pediatric neurosurgeon, and voters may turn to her so someone answers for this ObamaCare fiasco.

Oregon became a "disaster" when Californians infested the State after fleeing the bankrupt policies of the ultra-liberals. Washington State is now being infested (and has for years). (See Portland, Oregon + drinking water + contamination + 2014).

Has the health insurance "exchange" in Texas been a disaster?

It existed before 2010.
