I'm only at a loss for words when tragedy like this comes about and have sympathy for those who were closest.

If he's out there living still on the run, I hope they catch up with his ass soon. Hopefully he did everybody a favor by jumping into the River and situation has been taken care of.

Hard to survive the mighty Mississippi. I didn't realize there was a third girl who survived. Makes you wonder what motivates someone to go on a random killing spree like this.

This site is always informative

The news says 165' off the bridge. That is the height shown on the charts at mean high water. My guess, with the river at its current level the distance would be closer to 185'. A falling body would reach a speed approaching 160 mph after falling that distance - not survivable!

According to the news last night, he is presumed dead, and they have ended the search for his body. Thursday, they reported that because of currents and physical snags, it could be a month or so before a body floats to the surface of the Mississippi. If you saw the dash-cam, that man dived over the bridge railing. If he'd gone feet first there might have been a small chance he survived, but headfirst - it's all but impossible. At least LE was chasing the right man.

Another update: Tonight's news reported LE has recovered some "two dozen" cell phones purportedly taken from women this individual met through a website called "Backpage." He is/was the primary suspect in several New Orleans and Baton Rouge assault incidents, but the number of phones found indicates that there are many assault victims yet to be identified. This individual was in the service in 2008 and 2009, so LE is also investigating incidents of assault near and about his last duty station. Hopefully, this individual will never again abuse or kill anyone else, but be aware and hobby safe.

Here is the whole chase. http://www.wwl.com/VIDEO--High-speed...amerc/10723924 One of the news channels played the jump in slow motion. You can actually see one of the man's sandals fall off his foot as he makes the leap over the rail. It's obvious the man doesn't climb up on the rail and jump, but after looking at the film again, I can see he might have vaulted - grabbed the rail with his hands and hoisted his lower body over in a sweeping pivot motion - over the rail feet first as opposed to diving head first, per se, over the rail. Either way, the actual jump did happen out of camera view.

Not the smartest guy. Notice how during the first part of the chase he uses his blinkers before each turn. Not many people in South Louisiana use them at all, but this guy is being chased by the cops and he puts his blinkers on for two left turns and one right turn. TFF
