Default Critique Thread for Photographers

This thread is here for one reason and one reason only, to allow those members that are professional, amateur, or aspiring photographers to post examples of their work for critical comments by their peers.

The guidelines are very simple;

1. You may post any work you wish to have critiqued in this thread, with the model's permission of course, and subject to the image guidelines.

2. Any comments that directly attack the photographer or the model are not
allowed. For example:

And you call yourself a photographer?
Where did you find that cow?

Rather extreme examples, yes, but I think you get the idea. Keep the comment
to the techniques used and how they could be improved.

3. If anyone is wishing to contact one of the photographers that post here to
secure their services, please utilize the PM system for that or start another thread in
this forum. This thread will not be hijacked by other members.

4. This thread has to start somewhere with the first person asking for opinions. If you
take the time to critique a post, please, at some point, post some of your work for
comment as well. It is difficult to take advice from someone that never asks for
advice themselves.

5. We are not here to get any one butt hurt over something. If you wear your feelings on
your sleeve, you may not want to post on this thread. You have posted in this thread
because you want to know how to improve your work. If you do not take criticism
well, you may want to rethink before posting.

6. If you find a post on this thread that you feel is outside of these guidelines, please
utilize the RTM function to alert us to the matter and how you feel it is outside of
them. The RTM button is located in the lower left corner of each post made on
here and looks like this . If you do that just because you do not like the
comment that is made on your work, I will publicly say that you need to get your
big person pants on because you asked for the comment by posting on this thread.

That's all for now, but will be subject to revision as circumstances dictate.

Guideline Revision #1

This thread is not limited to photographs of escorts. A picture of any subject that you would like input on is more than welcome to be posted on this thread.

Have fun all!

that's a great start, miss snow! there's not much to fault here…i personally don't do the face blur, but it is what it is in this world. you might also see how it looks a stop darker to tame some highlights, but overall, a good pose, good black and white….a very nice job!

Constructive criticism...

I would have angled her a little more to her right (camera left) and popped her hip up just a tad more for the pose. I wouldn't have cropped off the tip of her shoe and personally, I don't like to get light mods in my shots. That said, it's a good start to this thread and very brave of you to jump in with both feet!

Thank you, I feel the same about the face blur!
When you speak about taming the highlights...do you mean for the whole picture or just on her?

Unfortunately I can't un-crop the foot...rookie mistake that I saw after I took this photo...tried to take over but it just wasn't there again! She wanted the studio look and since I don't have a studio...I put the light and cord visible thinking maybe it would give off that look but not over power her! Popping that hip would of killed (in a good way) the photo! I will remember that for when I use that pose again! Thank you...

i dig the creativity of having the softbox in there, but since it puts the hip in sharp outline, i agree that turning her would have been more flattering.

the light is a bit hot across her chest for me, but the light colored bra probably magnifies that.

try some local adjustments in lightroom and see what you think.

the face blur thing isn't a right/wrong deal, and obviously some photos will call for it. i just have a personal rule not to make that kind of photo - i either pose or crop to keep things anonymous.

so...this brings up a good point....does it have to be escort photography, or can one ask for help with any type of image? i don't mind helping with any kind of photo question, but i leave it to you all to decide.

Guideline #1:

1. You may post any work you wish to have critiqued in this thread

I see no reason to limit this to any one specific type of photography.

Well since I offered an opinion on BDS's work on the other thread that she posted that shot on I guess I should add something as well. I need to go through and find some more, but here's one to start with.

I will try those adjustments today..Thank you!
Since we are suppose to be critiquing and not just posting...all I have to say about yours is the second one...I can't see where the foot ends, but I'm again an amateur so I kinda don't really know when it's ok to make a move like that or not, cause it does appear to go with the photo and blend good with background!

Glad to see you posting in here sir...I like the shot, cute! Thanks for the advise on the other thread in ISO! I only see one thing I hopefully would of caught and changed...her arm has some lotion looking run on it! She prob put lotion on earlier and then when you did the shot with the water, it caused it to look white and started to run...even got on her hair looks like! I may just be crazy and that's just the way the outside light hits it! I have not done any outside work so I'm not for sure how the outside light hits things like this! Can't wait to do some outside work this weekend!

nicely done, sir. it's a good pose and the natural light gods were kind to you that day. as bds will tell you, i'm fanatical about the background composition, so that sprinkler head behind her leg must go. i doubt it would keep the phone from ringing, but always being in the habit of editing the background while you shoot will make anybody's images look more professional.

ah…the cropped foot/elbow/hand/arm/head thing. it drives some people crazy…like me not using capitol letters. heh.

i missed the foot….i generally won't cut one off in camera unless i can really see that's the only way the composition will work like i want it to. here's the bottom line…when you're composing, think about what adds value to the image. trim away anything that doesn't make a contribution, like excess headspace, for example. likewise, don't lose sleep over a missing toe….unless you're shooting for a foot fetish client.

and you're right about the lotion. good eye!!

Photo 1: Beautiful, I wouldn't change a thing.

Photo 2: Subjective to each photographer but I would have played with the dof a little more - a little more or less may have worked better. Also, it may be a little hot just above the garters.

Photo 3: There is a blemish on the back cheek and lines on the front one. Otherwise, it's perfectly processed and cropped.
