Bob Dylan gave a magazine interview and said some things that earns you a hate speech charge in Europe. Charge later dropped. Bob's been fighting the man for decades and now he's can mutter less with more fear of legal implications. Take a bath hippies and Frenchies.

In the 2012 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Dylan was quoted as saying, "If you got a slave master or Klan in your blood, blacks can sense that. That stuff lingers to this day. Just like Jews can sense Nazi blood and the Serbs can sense Croatian blood."

His comments, which were in response to a question about race relations in the United States, outraged some of his Croatian fans, leading the Council of Croats in France (CRICCF) to lodge an official complaint.

The whole concept of a "hate crime" somehow making the actions of mugging, rape, murder somehow worse is one of the stupidest things we have done legally. Prosecute the actions, leave the thought process to god in most cases.

Agree, but it is far easier to figure out what someone should have said/how they should have worded it in retrospect. We have lost all sense of proportion when dissecting what a person said to seven levels of mystic meaning. Some things are wrong, some are dumb, some are carelessly worded--but only a few are reprehensible. We seem unable to tell the difference in too many cases. I would put Dylan's in the "dumb" category--and when a folk singer from the Woodstock era says something dumb, it is hardly worth noticing.
