Does anyone here know about the VR headset - Meta Quest 2?

Meta Quest 2 — Advanced All-In-One Virtual Reality Headset — 256 GB

My son wants one for his upcoming birthday, but for $350, I can't really figure out what it does. Plus, the reviews are all over the place & many people state it's hard to get a refund if desired.

* Can someone please explain how it works?

* Is there anywhere in Houston I can go to test one out?

* Does it come preloaded with games?

* Do you buy games?

* Does it connect to the internet like a PS5?

* Once you receive it & put it on, what do you do next?

The website really doesn't explain that much & I can't figure out why my son wants one so bad ... is it just because they are popular or are they really worth the money?

It's a self-contained VR headset produced by Facebook/Meta. Comes with it sown operating system, own account system run by Meta, and own app store. Runs on its own battery, and comes with two controllers.

Not sure about where to test one.

Like your cell phone, there are some free games but many are paid. Games are downloaded from their app store, just like on a phone.

It does connect the internet over wifi.

You put it on, log in to a Meta account, and do some set up. Then download and run games and apps.

Some VR games are pretty cool. It's awesome for viewing VR porn too, perhaps something a horny teenager is interested in.

My little one is turning 9 so thankful I don't have to worry about the teenage hormones yet ... but the fact that porn is accessible is now a worry since I won't be able to see what he is watching on the VR headset VS. I can see what he is engaging in when on the computer/phone/TV/YouTube/PS5.

Yeah, good point about not being able to see what he's looking at.

If he's 9, then he's probably in it for the games. Whether it's appropriate for a 9 year old is up to you, I believe Meta has a minimum age of 10 to create an account.

Their app store doesn't have porn, it's one of those things you have to go looking for. But it does have a web browser.

Meta likely has parental controls you can set up. Not sure how well those work, but that adds complication and you will definitely need to put on the headset to do the initial setup.

Like a Nintendo or Playstation it's worth it if you invest in the games

i have one, but only play beat saber on it. highly addictive and pretty good workout to burn some calories.

its an excellent entry point into VR especially it being wireless and standalone. if you look into alternatives, like vive keep in mind they will need gaming pc to be plugged into.

I decided to pass on the VR headset this year. It sounds like just another electronic for him to become obsessed with & he already spends too much time on his PS5.
