I have no specific plans to return to Thailand as of now - butt I certainly would go again... and maybe include Pattaya this time!

Yeah, when traveling overseas, you get the best exchange rates from ATMs. Just make sure when it asks you if you want it in US dollars or local currency, always pick the local currency. This way your bank will do the exchange rate, which is always more favorable. If you chose USD, then the ATM will do the exchange rate (less cash for your dollar).

Get a Schwab debit card, they refund any international ATM fees at end of the month. Costs 220 baht (~7 USD) at SCB Siam Commercial Bank ATMs (purple ones). That's 2 dinners for 2 people at Terminal 21 food court.
