Want to visit Austin but need inputs.

So I am wanting to visit Austin some time in the near future. I was curious to know what the party scene there was like as well where a good place to stay at. I hear a whole lot of talk about 6th street so ideally I am wanting to stay near there unless you folks can give me some good reasons why not too or recommend better places. Just a quick profile of me I am young (mid20's) single, enjoy social drinking, and a club/bar atmosphere. Any inputs on where to stay and what to do? Thanks in advance.

6th Street is great for someone your age as it offers a shit ton of different venues that have live music as well as numerous dance clubs.. and yeah.. the hotties are out in full force right now!!! Mmm... However, I love love love to venture off 6th. The Warehouse district (most of 4th) has a really eclectic nightlife going on.. everything from cigar bars and jazz to techo/house scenes.. then you have the 7th st./Red River area which caters mostly to the "alternative" scene. Lots of punk, metal, goth, etc.
Oh.. do not leave Austin without having a BestWurst!!! OMG!! The best drunk food ever created! Or if you're not a fan of dawgs, there's tons of food vendors as well as 4-5 star restaurants.

I'm in your age range mojojo. I really like going to places like The Blue Elephant and Antone's both blues and jazz clubs but I have always liked that type of thing. I personally prefer west 6th Union Park, Jay Blacks to name a few places which are more clubby bars which is where i have been going over the last few weekends.

Austin is a whole lot of fun, my last two weekends out have been outstanding I need sleep

Thank you for your pm and the lovely compliment. I have lived in Austin for over 20 years and know this place pretty well. I like the unspoken of unpretentious lounges and jazz clubs. It's a fun city and will sure miss it when I move to Cali.

6th street is awesome! some other places that are pretty cool for drinks....... i like baby a's and nuevo leon on weekend nights. lots of hot girls especially if u like latinas and black chics. that is a great place to warm up before hitting 6th street. sherlocks is pretty cool on 183.

I liked Nuno's on 6th for blues. I've only been to one show at Emo's (Electric Six), which was awesome, but it's right next to a death metal club. The lyrics I heard while waiting outside went something like, "ROAOWOWOWRRR....MASSACRE THE INNOCENT...ROAOAOOWRRR...IMMOL ATE MY SOUL...ROAOAWOAOWR..." and so forth. I've heard mixed things about Stubb's BBQ, but they have great live music (I saw The Black Crowes there, missed Gov't Mule on Friday and will be seeing the Dropkick Murphys in March), so you might want to check who will be playing there while you're in town. The Dog & Duck Pub on W. 17th has a good selection of unusual beers which they'll let you try before buying (kinda like an alcoholic's Baskin Robins). +1 on Bestwurst. Bestwurst is fantastic, drunk or sober. If you smoke cigars, make sure to check out Heroes & Legacies.
