More Military Suspects in Secret Service Scandal: Official

The Pentagon had initially said five military personnel were involved but the list of military suspects now included five Army special forces members, two members of a Navy explosives ordnance disposal unit, two Marine dog handlers and one Air Force member, a US official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told AFP. All of the troops implicated were enlisted service members and not officers, officials said.

3 Secret Service members to leave agency amid scandal

Washington (CNN) -- Three U.S. Secret Service members have left or are being pushed out of the agency following a prostitution scandal that erupted in Colombia ahead of a visit by President Barack Obama, the agency said in a statement Wednesday.

The agency reported that one supervisory employee was allowed to retire, another supervisory employee was proposed to be removed "for cause," while a third has resigned.

. . . . Days after the Secret Service personnel were placed on administrative leave, investigators are now also looking into whether drugs were involved, according to a separate source with knowledge of the probe.

Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan has told subordinates to use "all tools available" to conduct the investigation, and has made it known that he believes drug testing is within his rights, the source said.

It is not clear if any of those accused have been tested, and authorities say drug use is not consistent with their findings so far, though they are continuing to investigate . . . allegations alongside local police. . . .

Sadly any big federal workers (military, DOD civilians, etc.) are prohibited from "hobbying" irregardless of wherever you are in the world.

An Air Force colonel and a military lawyer were also dispatched to Colombia this week. Under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, patronizing prostitutes is a crime for military personnel. It is referred to as "compelling, inducing, enticing or procuring a person to have sex in exchange for money; or receiving money for arranged sex."

Officials from U.S. Southern Command, which organized the military role for the security operation, have not provided details of its probe beyond saying that at least some of the military members violated curfew and may have been involved in "inappropriate conduct."
