Default Need great downtown restaurant recommendation

Dallas foodies,

I'm going to be in Dallas for one evening in a few days, staying downtown / arts district, (Adolphus) and am looking for a great restaurant nearby, perhaps a short cab ride away. Looking for something a little creative, eclectic, with a good wine selection. Not interested in anything too stuffy or a traditional steak house. What is hot on the Dallas restaurant scene these days? Recommendations?

Thanks!

Stephan Pyles on Ross has been around too long now to be considered "trendy", but it is still on the recommend list for someone looking for a downtown restaurant that is a little bit different. It's probably a little far to walk from the Adolphus in this heat, but a very short cab ride.

Try the Dragonfly at the Hotel ZaZa, good menu, great bar and lots of ladies.

I've done Grimaldi's (pizza, plus more on the menu), casual and near many of the condos in that area off McKinney across the street from the fenced in driving range (golf). Don't know if the range is still there. appears a good selection of wine and beer.

I prefer Fearing's to Stephen Pyles. Also new in the area is Lark on the Park. It's right across from the new Klyde Warren Park, which is very good urban architecture. Food is good, although not quite in the same league as Fearing's.

I suggest trying The Porch. Sangria Tapas Y Bar (if you like Tapas its AWESOME) or Mr. Mesero (mix if American and latin dishes). Not sure about the wine selections at each but the food is certainly good. Of them all I think The Porch will be more eclectic. You might also want to try Victor Tango's which is right by The Porch. Look all of them up on yelp for more info. Oh and a couple more to check out Oak Restaurant and the Meddlesome Moth in the Design District.

Al Biernet's isn't too far for a cab ride.
Consistently FANTASTIC and has been in Dallas for years and years.
Great wine list and the menu changes often.

if you need a date....I can bring my monkey along

+1 fearings at the ritz, pucks, pyles, nick and sams (the original one not the grill) and Lark. Toulouse and sangria have excellent brunch. If u wanna quick bite on main street, union park is awesome.

-100 on dragonfly. Zaza sucks anymore. Doucher central. Same with sfuzzis.

I was just around those two places so much right when i got here. Bunch of girls were getting G'd last year so i quit going to zaza.

I was at nick and sams last night and it was peppered with a few groups of very good looking women. If i were looking, that's where i'd look. And the food is fantastic! The menus themselves are even worth a look. Very cool

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, it looks like Fearings is the winner. Actually, I was going to try Lark, but couldn't get a table at the time I wanted. And Jenna, if the other seat at my table wasn't already spoken for, I'd be calling you and your monkey!

Fortunately for you, Dallas has become a good restaurant town. That wasn't true a few decades ago. Hope you enjoy, and please let us know your experiences. Perhaps you could write a review!
