Where did you hear that? If true, that is very irresponsible, PR wise. Considering the national press is already reporting (with photographs) that the clean-up and supply delivery method fell short of showing anything even remotely cautious, those with the ability to turn that perception around really should IMO.

Edit: I just searched and found the story. Agreed, total political stunt. They should have been transported by ambulance and trained medical staff wear protective equipment. Dallas is getting a lot of shit on how this has been handled. Why add to it????

Well, I would not call Clay Jenkins a standup guy. He ordered all the sheriff deputies to taze any family members if they came out of their apartment, after the first day when they weren't heeding to the health order to stay inside.

I would call his actions quite idiotic. We don't know all there is to know about this Ebola. He and everyone else may be right, nothing to worry about, but I wouldn't take a chance.
He isn't consistent in his actions. He saying it's okay to be next to these people and in the same car, yet he is ordering all of the sheriff deputy patrol cars to be quarantined and taking all their clothes and boots to dispose of.

If anything, he's doing it for publicity because he's up for reelection with an opponent.

They're not contagious. They are not contagious. Repeat after me, they are not contagious. If they develop symptoms -- and they might -- they could become contagious. But now, they are not contagious.

At the time they wouldn't let them outside, the apartment hadn't bern cleaned. And I don't think it was him who ordered them tazed. They have been moved to a private home with some outdoor space, which is much more suitable. I thought it was very much a stand up gesture to drive them there and apologize for some of the initial confusion and inevitable delays in making better arrangements for them. They are the folks most likely to get sick as a result of the hospital error.

Interesting article about how a young Belgian scientist isolated and discovered the Ebola virus in 1976:

Oh no no, Chung. He is going to educate the black community on Ebola bc "they are always the last to know". I heard AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and Tmobile restrict internet access to smartphones in certain urban areas. Not sure about all that but in my predominantly white neighborhood, representatives from the CDC and WHO have come to each and every home to do private Ebola presentations on how it is transmitted and how to protect ourselves as caucasians. They even brought over tea and crumpets with fresh fruit and mini sugar cubes on the side. They left about a dozen bottles of hand sanitizer and two temporal thermometers for each bathroom - with alcohol swabs! We were all given Tom Frieden's personal business card with his private cell phone number handwritten on the back should we have any questions or concerns. They were very helpful to me and all my white neighbors.

Isn't that what they are doing in the black neighborhoods too????

As a Black male and Public health Professional there are certain community outreach networks and message modalities to ensure at risk populations are informed. There are language, cultural, economic, and educational barriers especially in lower socioeconomic populations. Many times we have to go through community gatekeepers as a way of being "vetted" to the community. Some cultures are very distrustful of outside entities. Particularly in the Black community in which there is a history of distrust of the government and medical community because of past unethical studies done on blacks ie. Tuskegee Experiment in which Black men with syphillis were not treated to see what late stages of the disease looked like. I think Jesse believes he is a community gatekeeper and can help calm and alleviate the anxiety of the South Dallas Black community. Make no mistake there are inequalities in the provisions of healthcare and access to the health care system. It's frustrating that politics can affect the nation's health as well, we can't get a Surgeon General confirmed because the nominee wants to study the impact of gun violence and some hard liner pro gun lobbyists are saying he's too anti-gun.

On another note I don't contribute often to the boards but read the interesting threads at times and I do find the underhanded Racist tones and context of some posters sad. Hobby on!

Help calm the anxiety of South Dallas black community? That is BS!
From what I read in the news, the ebola outbreak is in North Dallas and some of those are exposed are up near Richardson.
He can't help alleviate the South Dallas white community?

Why can't Mr. Rainbow Coalition go calm people living in North Dallas where the outbreak is actually going on?!

I hope you did not take my post as racist, Nurseguy76. It was sarcasm. No I am not a big Jesse Jackson fan. He tends to make things about race once he gets involved. Just like he did with this thread.

We are individuals first and foremost. Access to healthcare is an economic issue.

There is no outbreak!!!! I wish people understood terminology. One case does not make an outbreak. There is one confirmed case of Ebola not a damn endemic in the US. And yes we ALL know Jesse is an opportunist and race baiter that wants to be seen (asking for money) but my ? Is what does it matter? Do you somehow think those in North Dallas where the "outbreak" occurred people aren't getting the attention or resources needed?

THN I didn't take your post as racist.

Yeah. The news just beeped on my phone just now. He died.

Wow. I wasn't expecting to hear that until the news started to change about everything yesterday.

I'm guessing they will wait until after the funeral to announce anything.. you know, dignity and all that.. but..

there are lawsuits coming... Presbyterian's Attorneys have to be huddling at this hour. an Ebola-infected Patient from Liberia is turned away with antibiotics, returning deathly-ill 2 days later? as John Wiley Price said yesterday, probably turned away because of no Insurance.. I hope Presbyterian has good Insurance.. millions of dollars are on the line.
