Romney was and is a moderate conservative. Being able to call out your own and work across the aisle on some items does not make someone a RINO, which has become as misused as the word fascist.
Reagan would have been considered a RINO by folks today tossing around the term, mostly because they are extremists who have lost the ability to get things done by finding room for compromise and win/win scenarios.
Reagan and Romney were both right about a great many things. And wrong. Yet they're both twice the man Trump is despite their own failings.
And they could take a loss on the chin and not spend years whining about it because both were about country over party and party over person. They had proven histories of getting things done in a bipartisan way.
Trump is about Trump. He's even more privileged than both of them put together and loyal to no one but himself. It's why he will never be palatable to the majority of the country. He was a change agent meant to sow chaos, not a man who could inspire unity.
Despite liking about 60% of his policies he will never get my vote. He will never step out of his own way. He will only inspire and unite about 40% of the country, which is why he needs low turnout for non-GOP. The majority don't like him. This is why they would rather have Joe Biden, who's always been a trainwreck in slow motion.
That's embarrassing. Pretend things were rigged all you want, the embarrassment of losing to Joe Biden will always be a stain on his record. I get why some folks can't accept it, but the reality is the turnout machine turned off enough folks that they voted him out.
