You're way ahead of the curve on this one, you are, Wave. Way ahead.
Yup, you solved it for us, Wave. That will work! I'm calling my Senators in the morning! Thanks for the brilliant solution!

Good, I knew it all the time.
Will you support me when I go for a job in Washington?
I want to be Obama's right hand solution

first, you have to convince me that ALL teachers want to be armed and accept the responsibility that goes with it ...

In Houston, the teachers need to be armed to protect themselves from the students.

I think having Teachers armed is ridiculous.
But, having a trained, commisioned Peace Officer, (cop), in every school is a idea that is well worth exploring.

Cops almost always have part time jobs. We should hire them as substitute teachers and have them teach in uniform wearing their guns. Retired cops would make good teachers too.

That's fine, arm the teachers but also provide the hundreds if not thousands of hours required to have the skills to deploy a weapon and effectively use it in a crisis situation. If you think that shooting a gun is like in the movies where the good guy always kills the bad guy with one shot, you must live in lalaland. By the time an inexperienced person pulls the gun out of the holster and is ready to shoot, that person is dead. One second is the maximum time a trained police officer has to have a weapon ready to shoot at a target. More time, and the gunman has already killed you.

dont forget the cost of liability insurance the school will need ..
if a cop kills an innocent the city pays millions
if a teacher shoots a kid by accident, even if its during the course of protecting other kids, guess what?

Can the NRA members cover the cost of additional security in the schools? I mean, why should I pay an additional tax so that a small percentage of the population can have a right to own guns. That's another way of subsidizing a small group of people. If they want to own guns freely, then pay up for additional security.

At least two, and more depending on the location, size, and student body ... "campus cops" are looked down upon the LE community and generally lack sufficient training and experience because the school districts will not provide the kind of training they need to respond to the type of threat addressed in this thread....and others .. recently. Educators, who are more liberal, have a predisposition to not like LE or have respect for them and if they are "campus cops" the administration will look upon them as "security" as opposed to LE. Let local LE train their own and provide guidance to the teachers as to what to do in the event of an intrusion .... drills and information will sharpen the awareness and decrease the response time ... everyone knows what to do and where to go..... just like fire drills, etc. Have the districts beef up the perimeters and class room entrances ... electronic monitoring ... and an enforced policy of verifying those who wish to come on the campus .... also... get the parking lots away from the school buildings .... teachers tend to get fat asses anyway ... let em walk to the buildings
"Fort Knox" ... the kids are as valuable.
Oh, one need not explore it" .... it is being done all over this country, but not every where.
K-12 Public schools and college campuses.
