NO NFL PLAYER STOOD FOR THE NATIONAL ANTHEM UNTIL 2009—BEFORE THEN, THE PLAYERS STAYED IN THE LOCKER ROOM AS THE ANTHEM PLAYED. NFL TEAMS GOT PATRIOTIC IN RECENT YEARS BECAUSE IT WAS GOOD FOR BUSINESS. A 2015 CONGRESSIONAL REPORT REVEALED THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE HAD PAID $5.4 MILLION TO NFL TEAMS BETWEEN 2011 AND 2014 TO STAGE ON-FIELD PATRIOTIC CEREMONIES; THE NATIONAL GUARD SHELLED OUT $6.7 MILLION FOR SIMILAR DISPLAYS BETWEEN 2013 AND 2015.

Why does Kaepernick's points of his protest have no merit?

We've all been taught since 1st grade to stand and put our hands over our hearts to honor our country. Honoring the flag is the same as honoring our country.
It's also not a written rule you don't take a shower with hot coals from the barbecue pit, but it's something we all know not to do. Common sense is what it's called.
kaepernicks points have no merit because until he started his anti-American bullshit, he wasn't oppressed. He was a multi-millionaire making millions a year. Oppressed my ass. Now had it been some guy from the 'hood that was down on his luck and having a bad run, then I could understand it. Now, since kap is out of a job, he still has millions in the bank, so he needs to just move on. He didn't get blackballed by the owners, he blackballed himself. He took a stand, but it was a bad one to take.
OK, let's look at oppression. Long before the underground railroad and long before the middle passage, how about all the Jews that had the same thing done to them, or the American Indians. You don't go around seeing them with a chip on their shoulder. The jews said this holocaust bullshit will never happen again, that's why their armed forces are one of the best in the world, and Israel don't take no shit from nobody. The American Indians have never recovered and may never recover, so if you think you have a monopoly on being oppressed, think again. People have been fucking over other people since the days of Adam and Eve.
Lastly if you think there aren't consequences when people try to protest the National Anthem, then pick your stories to read from this link. This is what happens when you bring children into politics. Some adult coach thought he was being cool, and it turned into a disaster for everybody.

Being patronizing isn't your strong point.
OK, instead of Adam and Eve, how about substituting that with since we were all tadpoles.

LMAzo You serious about the American Indians, not having a chip on their shoulder? Ha! Too funny! The American govt. hunted them down. They had their land stolen and forced to live on reservations. ....but no chip on their shoulder? Mmmm kay..
The Israelis have created a Palestinian holocaust. They Jews basically did the same thing to the Palestinians just like the American govt. did to the Native Indian Americans.
We also pay Israel's defense budget to the tune of $3 billion per year. Yep, that's $3 billion in paid American tax money.
What history books have you've been reading sir?
Last the pleadge of allegiance is not a mandatory thing students have to forced to do thank goodness. This isn't the 1950's anymore sir.

You may not want to question my history education, when yours is greatly distorted.
The partitioning of Israel was executed by the United Nations, not the Jews.

So, Kaepernick was getting paid to stand for the national anthem.
That is all together different. He and the rest of them should have been fired.

First off Kaepernick has clearly stated that he personally has not faced the injustices that he is protesting. So DJ that makes your point moot.
With that being said because he has not encountered the injustices that he is protesting that means he cannot identify with said injustices? Is he unable to see something is wrong? Which that logic no one other than victims or friends and family of victims should be able to protest. That right there is the problem. With your logic one sided detriment in this country is ok and only the affected should be allowed to speak up and then they can only speak up in an approved manner.
You went so far as to talk about the Jews...nothing to do with here. Since you brought it up. The holocaust and slavery are apples and oranges. Thought the holocaust is fucked up on a grand scale it's not even close to slavery. For you to think that the native Americans are ok with history and don't harbor animosity you are out of touch with reality and clearly you don't have any native Americans friends. I'm sure the Sioux involved with the standing rock protest were not excited to be in that situation.
With your logic only native Americans should have spoke up about that too.
Empathy is a quality you, sir, seem not to have and that again is a problem. People that face injustices are usually in the lower class when it comes to income. With Kaepernick having a big platform to reach the masses why wouldn't he use it to get a message across.
His message was never lost. People like yourself choose to deflect to him kneeling instead of addressing why he is kneeling. Never want to go to the root of the problem because you either have to admit the injustices that he is speaking about are in fact true or you have to admit that you are unbothered and don't care about the injustices that he speaks of because they are not happening to people that look like you.
Forget about the kneeling for a minute and talk about the ROOT cause...

tbone...that's has nothing to do with the question at hand. I understand your point, but that is a whole different topic of discussion. I wouldn't mind poking holes in that too.
Does Kaepernick's protest have merit, why or why not?

I don't give a rat's ass about Kaepernick but until you see the Black community stepping up a little to fix it's own problems....curing the problems will take much longer.
Have you stepped up?
